kageyama hironobu is the proclaimed king of anime rock. Anything he or JAM Project sings gets stuck in the top ten simply due to sheer fame. (JAM stands for Japan Animationsong Makers) Unfortunately, the only songs of his you'll find of this database are his Dragon Ball Z songs. But hey you've got to admit, "Chala-Head-Chala" is pretty catchy even if quite dated and silly. Note that I didn't say J-Rock, I make a distinction between Rock music used in Anime and J-Rock because more often than not themes that are sung about in J-Rock do not fit the theme of an Anime. Which is probably one reason it's a genre that's not used a lot in AMVs. There are a few exceptions to this train of thought, though.
See-Saw and yuki kajiura as a composer is gaining popularity and fame these days mostly regarding their work for Bee Train on .hack//SIGN and Noir.
TWO-MIX has done quite a few anime songs, although pretty much all everyone can remember is Gundam Wing.
megumi hayashibara is well known for her anime pop songs as well as her voice actressing. "Until Strawberry Sherbert" is one of those songs that'll rot your teeth.
There're also a couple of Anime "boy band" groups composed of famous male seiyuu. Although you can really call them boys. I'm sure if you ask any Weiß Kreuz fanatic they'll tell you about the Weiß group composed of takehito koyasu, tomokazu seki, shinichiro miki, and hiro yuuki. (shinichiro miki is also a member of JAM Project if I remember correctly.) There's one other 4 seiyuu group formed around the gensoumaden saiyuki anime series. They and the Weiß group have teamed up to do an 8-person song in another anime series called Tenchou.
The best use of J-Rock in Anime I personally would say is SIAM SHADE's "1/3 True Feelings" opening song for rurouni kenshin. X Japan is definately not country music, but they have several Rock Ballads that are slow in tempo. Maybe that's what is being confused as 'Country' music.

Silly. Yes. Catchy. No. I find all the DBZ intro songs quite horrible actually. Although the line "Ipai Opai" is funny .KLin wrote:But hey you've got to admit, "Chala-Head-Chala" is pretty catchy even if quite dated and silly.
"We gotta power! Do-ragon Bo-lu..ZET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Yay! Someone said Two-Mix. Yeah they have done some great songs in Gundam Wing (White Reflection comes to mind). However, I find their other works good as well. Can't get much better than Love Revolution and Last Impression (as for J-pop/techno is concerned).KLin wrote:TWO-MIX has done quite a few anime songs, although pretty much all everyone can remember is Gundam Wing.
Interesting note that my friend and I realized a few years ago. Is it just me or does every Two-Mix song that ends in "ion" good and the others..mediocre.
Think about it...Rhythm GeneratION, Just CommunicatION, Rhythm EmotION, Last ImpressION, Love RevolutION, White ReflectION, Time DistortION, etc.
However, songs like Burning Desire, Winter Planet, Truth, etc. are not as good (still good mindyou). Interesting ne? (not really...we were just stupid college kids ).
I like One-Third, but at the same time GTO's Driver's High by L'arc En Ciel is better (IMO). I might also add to Siam Shade, X, etc. that L'arc is an excellent band. Oh and I once again suggest Luna Sea. They are my favorite J-rock band (too bad they broke up). Doesn't get much better than Tonight by Luna Sea.KLin wrote:The best use of J-Rock in Anime I personally would say is SIAM SHADE's "1/3 True Feelings" opening song for rurouni kenshin.
