Badass..I saw this way back when and I would have to wholeheartedly agree.

"Where's your image Hibiki?" (in the ditziest voice possible) I can't believe that line has stuck with me after over 10 years.

I am to, but then again, this was posted a day after the first one.

As I mentioned in the other thread, don't get the Samurai Shodown Anime. I found out the DVD release is virtually exactly the same as the VHS one. (NO EXTRAS, NO JAPANESE DIALOGUE TRACK) THE HORROR. :D Unless you want to collect it to see just how badly dubbed it was, avoid buying it even though it's pretty inexpensive for an anime DVD. Someone also forgot to clue in the translators that Amakusa Shirou is actually male. @.@ I mean, he's loosely based on a real-life historical figure, do your research, geez! :D Besides, Shirou is definately not a woman's name. Which also begs the question why they keep calling him by his surname 'Amakusa' instead of by his first name in an English Dub. @.@ It's one of the oldest ADV dubs ever: Matt Greenfield as Earthquake, and Tiffany Grant using a French accent as Charlotte. For the love of God, stay away from this monstrosity. :D

I don't watch much dubbed anime so other than maybe Dragon Ball Z, I can't say I've seen too much ridiculously horribly dubbed anime. Maybe some that were just bad, like the Escaflowne dub that was shown on TV for a short while.

Gah. I hate when people complain about dubs..

I love dubs. I'm probably their biggest fan. I watch dubs, and if I have to I'll watch subtitled, but I prefer dubbed over everything else.

Most of the time the dubbing is excellent.. for instance, I love Trigun's dubbing, Lodoss War's dubbing, and a lot more.

But there are some I refuse to like..

Such as...

Tenchi Muyo

Agh. Oh well. Never liked it anyways.

I don't recall the Tenchi dub to be that terrible.

Oh yeah, I'm sure you all know that Sailor Moon also has some crappy dubbing. So does a lot of the kiddie anime dubbing!

Gah. I hate when people praise dubs...:-P (wow that required less than 15 characters to modify your statement...excluding this of course).

the problem with dubs is, it will never be 100% accurate to whats being said, same applies to subs, its imposible, the only way to win in this sittuation is to learn the language....but hey, i prefer subs, the jokes ussually work better....it seems to me that english voice actors dont have a sense of humour.....

You have an excellent point dubs AND subs can't be 100% accurate. However, for me I think with the sub you lose...less. You can lose a little in translation (the same or more in dubs..use the same script or modify the sub script), but you keep the original voices, emotions, tones, mannerisms, voice direction and so on. I do of course agree, best is to well..learn japanese and hell...even live there and learn their culture (b/c of the references).

I don't blame you. This may come to a shock to many (namely Atomic and Pyro who see my rants everywhere), but I actually :gasp: liked the Ranma dub. I saw it WAY back when and it's sentimental to me. Now would I watch it over the sub...maybe. Some of the voices are "wrong" and not that accurate, but at the same time...voices like Kuno and Nabiki were hilarious. Either way..I understand the sentimental thingy....it tends to blind us from the truth :-P

meh, every one has to have something that they will defend for no logical reason besides it holding sentimental value. I'm not sure what my sentimental object is that i'll defend to the last breath ... but i problaby have one somewhere, and it' s problaby pretty stupid. As for the Ranma 1/2 dub ... i don't know i haven't seen ranma so i can't put out a legitimate opinion. But judging by the way you talk about it it sounds like it's something that most people would view as a poor dub.

Now about poor dubs, i hated the akira dub (the old one, never seen the new one), la Blue Girl dub was terrible, but then again thats hentai ... dubbed or subbed the odds are that it won't ammount to much. I hated the Eva Dub, and i only saw 2 episodes dubbed too (3 and 4 ... thankfully your not introduced to all the characters so i didn't have to hear all the dub VA's). hmm at the moment thats about all i can remember.
