hmmm, so Mr Oni, you hate Eva because you can't understand it? odd, thats the think that intrigues me the most about eva, teh fact that they leave you with a lot of open ends to draw your own conclusions, and i'm sure that theres a lot of people who have drawn all kinds of conclusions about Eva, thats probably one of the reasons why a lot of people like the series, or at least me.
As for FLCL, i loved that OVA. It was one of the things that rekindled my interest in anime.
but i think i alredy posted about what i thought was the worst anime, i'm not going to go and repeat my slef ... thats probalby jsut annoying for any one who reads through the threads.

Once again, those are not the reasons I didn't like it. Indeed, Metropolis DID have pointless filler AND annoying characters. The characters are, in fact, one of the reasons I didn't like it. Along with crappy animation, TERRIBLE music, and what I saw as a subpar plot. Now, the plot had potential, but they failed to really do anything with it since it was a movie and therefore too short. Had Metropolis been an OVA, perhaps it would have been better, but as it stands, it's my least favorite anime I've ever seen... except maybe DBZ... but I've only seen that on american TV and it hardly counts as anime at that point anyway.CaTaClYsM wrote:alot of peopel are stupid, and their opinions shoudl thusly be disregarded, you probably hated it because it didn't have any of the followingAlucard_FoN wrote:No. Because a lot of people agree with me about Metropolis. A. Pointless filler
B. Mindless violence/gore
C. Fanservice/Nudity
D. Refrences to ancient texts
E. Bad Bad Bad anoying pissy characters.
And Lets not forget hte version you downloaded was a crappy fansub with pisspoor translations, if you went and picked up the DVD or watched for it on TV it would definetly improve the quality of the movie.

Honestly, I dont hate Eva, but I understood it, and still didn't like it very much. If I wanted to draw my own conclusions about an apocalypse and the book of Revelation, I would watch Donnie Darko. I guess where I'm trying to go here is, Eva tried too hard to be mind blowing, and ended leaving a sour taste in my mouth. But all of this is just my $.02.Propyro wrote:hmmm, so Mr Oni, you hate Eva because you can't understand it? odd, thats the think that intrigues me the most about eva, teh fact that they leave you with a lot of open ends to draw your own conclusions, and i'm sure that theres a lot of people who have drawn all kinds of conclusions about Eva, thats probably one of the reasons why a lot of people like the series, or at least me.

Gundam 0083 - Last Blitz of Zeon:
For anyone who's said G Gundam is the DBZ of Gundam, I'm gonna have to disagree, sure G had it's flashiness, but there was still an attempt at an honest-to-God story behind it (originally it was just going to be about the Gundam fight until the creator stepped in and insisted they add the Devil Gundam to make things more interesting...a smart move at that) whereas, 0083 in my book takes the award for the 'all action-little to no story' award...I mean, what plot they have borders on ludicrous (esp. during the final episodes) the characters are easily some of the weakest I've seen in anime in a long time and the fact it proceeds to write itself out of the UC timeline is just....
But I digress...
I voted for the compilation movie over the actual OVA simply because, if you try to take a 13-episode OVA with a sub-par storyline and shave it down to 2 hours then it just becomes THAT much worse

Actually (as was mentioned in passing earlier), Tezuka apparenlty never actually saw the movie. From what I found when poking about the web when Metropolis was first released here, he only saw the movie posters for it and was impressed by the images of the city, and wrote the manga based on that. The movie itself deviates considerably from the manga (the robot main character in the manga is a boy...), and they may have intentionally tried to make it closer to its silent film namesake.Stoic wrote:Metropolis was a good movie, for what it was. It was the anime adaptation of a great classic film,Metropolis. The story is basically the same, minus the Ziggurat, and replace robots with poor people.
The backgrounds where amazing, and I'll be the first to admit that the character designs were flawed here and there, but the idea was great. The plot is slow moving, and it drags in areas; however, the overall effect is not quite lost.
I think you guys should atleast check it out if for nothing else than the idea behind it. I personally enjoyed it and wish to pick up a copy of it next time I get paid.
I can't think of any crapy animes right now, simply because I haven't really watched that many.
I personally didn't think it was all that bad, and actually kind of enjoyed it. Plus, it made quite good video source material.
*shrugs*
Of course, I also don't really have a good answer for what I'd consider the worst anime ever. Mainly because I think I just completely forget about ones I don't have any desire to ever see again. Though I seem to vaguely remember "The Humanoid" and "Capricorn" sucking heavily.

Um, unless it's something -reaaaaaly- new that I'm not up on, there isn't a BGC 2066.... just:Yaia wrote:omg i dont know how i forgot
bubble gum crisis 2066 SUX
Bubblegum Crisis
Bubblegum Crash (which did suck more than Crisis, other than Nene getting to kick some ass)
BGC 2040 (once you learn to take it as its own series, kind of like some of the Tenchi series, it's not that bad. And it does go much further into explaining some of the character's motivations and backgrounds than the original could in its truncated OAV run)

Mm, I feel Stardust Memories had it's moments though.
*spoilers ahead*
I felt it was very emotional and sad that Kou had to kill Kelly after working closely with him to rebuild the Zeon suit. Gundam Seed sort of takes that page out of Stardust Memories with Kira and Andrew. Lieutenant Burning's death was very dramatic too, although you could see it coming what with all the foreshadowing they did. That's got to be one of the most upsetting anime deaths I've seen, to die from an unnoticed mobile suit failure while coming back to base 'victorious.' I cried the first couple times I saw it and always feel a little choked up when I watch it again. Maybe it's true that Stardust Memories' main characters weren't that great, but a few of the secondary characters stood out, like Burning, Captain Synapus, and Cima Garahou.
