How do you have a rational conversation with these people...

I just chatted with my cuz and he says that anime sucks. How do you deal with people who talk like that? that genealize anime, and lump together DBZ with grave of the fire flies and evangelion. and say that aniem as a whole sucks.

I was just telling him that to hate anime as a whole is a retarded thing to do, I could care less aobut converting him, it is just that with convincing people they can often be converted in the process. but right now I was jsut trying to get him to admit that anime does NOT as a wholes suck. which still has not happened yet.

Well, as in any argument, you should ask why a person has the opinion that they do. Ask why they think Anime sucks. And then tell them why you think Anime does not suck. Same thing applies to AMVs, some people think your AMVs suck, and some do not. Often times, both sides have valid points. :)

you could listen to all that rational mumbo-jumbo, or you could just beat the guy with a tire iron until he is so bloody and in pain that he admits that he was wrong to get you to stop beating him. then whenever someone mentions anime, he will cower in fear

I, as mentioned, just ask them why. I have a friend who has only seen the commercials for DBZ, and says anime sucks. Damn that show. It gives anime a bad name... With that and pokemon, Makes people think they are kids shows.

How do I deal with it? I come to the forum, and realise that they may be right.

OLMEC COMPARES ANIME TO SUCK NOT ONLY BECAUSE OF IT'S SUCKISH QUALITIES, BUT ALSO BECAUSE OF IT'S TENDANCY OF RENDUNDANT COMMERCIALS, ONES WHICH DRIVE OLMEC TO NO END.

Lol, Nailz.

Anyway, if they're a person that typically stereotypes then I just don't bother with it. If they're generally open-minded, then I note on the wide variety of themes, plot, characters, and audience. Most people just don't care enough to listen from what I've seen. But a few, I've been able to introduce to a lot of good anime.

he said the drawing in anime was undetailed, he them complained about the big eyes they have, he then said he saw harcore anime, and that was it. He refused to tell me what animes he had seen or give me any better explanation. I spent alot of that argument trying to drag an explanation out of him and he wouldn't budge.
