A good example of a dub done right in this kinda situation is FLCL...I mean, there are tons and tons of Japanese references, but the dub is great because they keep a lot of them, but they also add some new (americanized) ones. Granted, Lucky Star and FLCL are way different, but the same kinda thing can apply.

Ep was a little drab compared to some others, but still enjoyable. Also enjoyed the

Ok, I agree, episode 9 was kinda of meh. I guess the blood type and sushi personalities threw me off. And not to mention the baseball references and its relation to corporate sponsors was pretty foreign to me (I don't think we do the same here in the U.S.; can anyone shed some light on it?).
Episode 10 was hilarious to me especially:

In the U.S. a team may have corperate sponsership (like how they sell the naming rights to their stadiums and the adds to broadcasters of their games and those billboards on the fields and whatnot), but in Japan, all the baseball teams are owned by companies. Newspapers, supermarket chains, vendign machine companies, they all completely own the teams, and when their teams do well they're known to offer specials to the public. MLB teams are mostly owned by very wealthy businessmen. Their private endevors and private business dealings (or however they made their millions) is independent from their ownership of the team.angelx03 wrote:And not to mention the baseball references and its relation to corporate sponsors was pretty foreign to me (I don't think we do the same here in the U.S.; can anyone shed some light on it?).

For the record, last year's Japan Series was between the Nippon Ham Fighters (owned by Nippon Ham), and the Chunichi Dragons (owned by Chunichi Shinbun, a newspaper), which the Ham Fighters won.BasharOfTheAges wrote:...but in Japan, all the baseball teams are owned by companies. In '05 the Chiba Lotte Marines (Lotte makes BlackBlack caffeine gum and has a huge retail presence as well, see here for more info won, and in '04 the Seibu Lions (Seibu has huge department stores and owns railway lines as well) took it home. I imagine there would be sales at the department stores when the Lions win.
