Of course this video is very impressive technically, and the amount of work that went in to it must have been enormous. Pure eye candy, and for that I'll keep it. However, the video was a tad long, and in the end I think that it's just about the same as every other Death Note video out there...atmosphere's the same, story (or lack thereof, I can't really tell) is the same, even the music you used sounds a lot like a typical choice for use with Death Note. You did a good job with the effects, and I'm genuinely impressed with the 3D stuff and great flow you had throughout. I just didn't feel anything while watching it though :/
3.5/5 from me, I'll round up to 4 for ya

I have to disagree with all of these points..I've only seen 3 decent death note videos (Fuze's being the best one, and the other two being ScorpionP's and Sierra Lorna's) and this was very different. Atmosphere-wise, because the others were just action - this had a dark feeling to it the others hadn't. Concept-wise (because it isn't a clear storyline, more of a concept) it's different, as all the others followed the death note story with L, Misa and Near - this one was more of a mind game between Raito and Ryuk, the others weren't even there. The music was also completely different from all of them, so won't comment on this.CrackTheSky wrote:atmosphere's the same, story (or lack thereof, I can't really tell) is the same, even the music you used sounds a lot like a typical choice for use with Death Note.
I usually agree with your criticism (which is why I'm bothering to reply to you in specific) but I think you got a bit carried away in an attempt to find negative points there, while you could have pointed other things out.
If there are more decent death note amvs with this same atmosphere, the same concept and similar music that I haven't watched, go ahead and point them out, because I haven't bothered to look for many in the masses of unworthy-of-even-checking-out DN amvs (a good one or two might have been lost in there).
If you didn't feel anything for more than 5 minutes, you must be dead :OCrackTheSky wrote:I just didn't feel anything while watching it though :/

We'll just have to agree to disagree then I think all the videos you mentioned have the same exact dark feel to them. Maybe it's more prominent in this video because of the use of grittier effects, but to me, the atmospheres at the core of all these Death Note videos are nearly indistinguishable from one another.Cast to Stone wrote:stuff
As for the concept, I haven't seen Death Note, so I have no idea what you're talking about. It seems like every DN video I see requires familiarity with the source to understand the concept at all, and that bothers me.
Meh. It was good, and memorable for the effects, but not for anything else.

Didn't require me for sure. I never watched DN itself, but understood the main concept of the video from the second or third time (of course from the first time I simply couldn't understand anything because I was watching for all the effects which as I thought were really cool).CrackTheSky wrote:... There is one moment [100% shot 2:18, 2:40] in the video that I think will help to affirm people's thoughts on the concept without reading Darius's [D:GQ's] comment. Even though there is that one 100% moment, I think it's a good point. In this way you're letting people to get other parts by themselves. ...if you're showing everything as it is, it's getting too boring and obvious, especially if you watched anime.
In this video concept is not something that you can't get at all and say "wtf, this video just a whole bunch of random scenes" No way :/

But this Video is definetly a keeper =P

In some way you are right. The plot of our work almost exactly repeats the plot of anime, but it hasn't been the point of focus. Our main task was to create an easy meaning + atmosphere + style. In this case the music video came out as a little bit aggressive, but not meaningless. This sounds offensive to us in a way. Meaning is there, but one should want to see it. There are lots of amvs on this site (even popular ones) with far more meaningless shell. And I do not think our creation is one of those.
...but anyway - 10x to all you guys for the opinions

Dude, no reason to feel insulted. I mean I don't give a damn about a 'meaning' how ever ones wants to define it, if there are other qualities, like the most important, which is good editing, and I think it's given here. So the lack of actual messange or story doesn't really make much of a difference here.Darius GQ wrote:CrackTheSky
