Yeah, we're being ripped off, the most expensive anime ever is fullmetal alchemist and it costs $30 just for 3 episodes!

I bought all of FMA about a year ago and it wasn't that much.
Each volume was $20 for 4 episodes with exception of the final volume, which had 3 episodes for $20 as well as a lot of extras. The movie was also $20, but you can get a special edition with lot of extras for $35.
Recently, they've rereleased the first into compressed sets which, I believe are around $40 for 12-15 episodes.
All that is average anime price.

Also, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is by far, more expensive than what you claim to have paid for FMA. Each volume of three episodes is $45 due to the large boxes supposedly filled with extra stuff as well as the series in original broadcast order (Japanese only). These are also available in singles for $20, but I'm going to wait until they're compressed into a single set.

Why don't they just sell all the episodes in one boxed set for fifty-four bucks. That would be reasonable. Because I think you should only have to pay a dollar for each episode.

I never buy single DVDs. I only ever buy full series collections. And never online, I've been screwed with bootlegs too many times. And I only ever buy anime that I see has potential for editing.

Which means I very rarely buy anime at all.

I did something truly strange recently, I actually bought some anime on actual dvds, the real thing, genuine, retail copy, legit, full price.

I got Air TV, the extra 4th disk and the movie. I'm out a considerable sum of cash, 30 bucks or more a disk.

Guess what, I did it gladly.

My collection is for the most part completely copied, off the net, from buddies wherever. In addition to the usual pre commercial release subs.

But I finally got sick and tired of all the *&$%*&^% crap that the electronic gaming industry thinks is worth buying. I have found, that most games are not even worth getting free off the net.

So I decided to start actually buying some anime. Anime is unique in that it's actually worth it. Certainly worth a lot more than the crap spewing out of Hollywood most days.

I am naturally a big fan of Air TV. I consider it one of the purest series I have watched in a while. Not surprising it gets picked for so many AMVs.

Now with some luck, this year at Anime North, I will find another series worty of my cash.

Are the anime dvds a rip off? Well when you consider a dvd blank is worth about 20 cents if you shop wisely, maybe 50 cents if you go dual layer. So a series using 5 or 6 disks, well sure 100 or more bucks can seem like a massive expense.

I'm comfortable with buying them if I can though. Beats paying 30 or more bucks for the crap that Hollywood dumps on me. Which is usually not even worth a blank dvd.

Well there has to be limits :)

200 for season 4 seems crazy when my friend was getting seasons 1-3 for 50 each.

Fucking viz the only anime Company I support ripping off. Assholes charged 25 bucks for Ranma tapes with only 2 eps on them. I really don't mind paying 20 to 25 for 3 or more eps but never 2.

well a regular tv series season usually cost about $30 (4 DVD) with about 26-30 eps or so
it should be better priced around there...
