I think I've decided to do a real short one this year, like only a minute long. The other project I've been working on's taking longer than I figured it would take, so I'll push that one back for Katsucon or something. And, if I don't finish my short idea, I'll just send that one AMV Hell 4 video I released this year.
For some reason, I feel less spirited about this year's contest. It's like "I know I can go all out with this" and "I have a million ideas how this can be done," but as I begin, I just feel tired and can't think straight. Guess it comes with a full-time job. Plus, I want to see something for myself on this one.

I'm really interested in joining, but the problem is my video is a total of 6:30. The song was originally 7 mins but I cut 30 seconds out.... I'm not sure how I could cut down another 30 seconds out. Is there any way to send it without cutting it down? Because it ruins the flow if I try to cut it down.

There are a few reasons for the 6 minute time limit. The first is that people start getting antsy around the 3 minute mark. Anything past 6 minutes is torture. In fact, VERY rarely will a 5+ minute video make finals because the prescreening judges get bored, and if a dedicated team of AMV afficianados can't sit through the video, then it's probably asking too much of the audience to make them sit through it.
The second reason is that the contest is 2 hours long. Each title slate is 20 seconds long, and each category slate is 10 seconds long. Assuming that the top 30 videos all average to a running time of 3:30 each, that leaves a total of 4 minutes of free time, which we fill with the intro, thanks-for-coming messages, that kind of thing. We expect to receive over 100 videos this year. That's an average of 350 minutes, or just shy of 6 hours without all of the slates. out of that, only 33% will move on to the finals, and a 6+ minute video will eat up 16% of the contest. We could put 2 or even 3 more videos in that one spot, and make some more entrants happy.
Short answer: Your video is too long. It would be unfair to the audience, and unfair to the submitters to feature it in the final contest.
However, if the video is abso-freakin-lutely incredible, the duration may be overlooked, but this has only happened once at another contest that I ran, with a video that ran 6:05 but felt like 2 minutes. The video went on to win best of show. If you think that your entry is THAT good, then by all means submit, otherwise it'll simply get moved right into one of the AMV Overflow screenings instead.

Okay, thanks for replying. Maybe, if it's possible, to send in two versions of my video? One where I cut it down and the other where I send the full length. I'm unsure if my vid is like the one you stated, but my friends have encouraged me to send it in. It doesnt hurt to try, right? =3VicBond007 wrote:Unfortunately: No.Kazemon15 wrote:I'm really interested in joining, but the problem is my video is a total of 6:30. I'm with you there. I like the online submission form because now I don't have to print out the form to fill it out and sign it (or photoshop my sig on it *coughs*) but since it's not "with" the video I keep thinking "they got it, right? ...of course they did!...but what if they didn't?...nah, I'm sure it's fine."
