Before the carrot, I used WinMX and another file sharing program (can't remember the name) for my mpg versions. I had little under-5mb wmv versions I zipped up and hosted on a geocities group and sent to people via email or IM. It used to take hours to send a 5mb vid on hotmail's instant messenger. I think those little wmv versions are still in the file section of that group to this day since I left without removing them.
During the carrot, I put those little wmv versions on indirect links with a free geocities site for the people who couldn't download from the org yet. I even made extra geocities sites - one per vid - since each site had a 5mb hosting limit.
It's amazing to think free sites used to be 5mbs or less. How small those things were compared to today. And kids these days actually complain about 100mb to 300mb limits on the free file hosting sites.
