Classic AMVs Weekly #10
Classic AMVs Weekly #10 - June 15th, 2008
This week, I will be showcasing not one, but three great videos, all by the same editor, and all three fit with a theme. So, here we go!
Aluminum Studios - Sailor Senshi AMVs
Venus in the Bottle
Vintage: 1999
Song: Christina Aguilera - Genie In A Bottle
Blue Mercury
Vintage: 2001
Song: Eiffel 65 - Blue
Dreams of Red
Vintage: 2001
Song: Sting - Desert Rose
Whether you are a fan of Sailor Moon or not, you will probably enjoy these videos, and they may even make you want to check out Sailor Moon if you never have.
Blue Mercury was one of the first AMVs I ever saw, so I am a little biased I suppose. Plus anyone who knows me knows that I am a gigantic Sailor Moon fan. (It's one of the best animes ever ) So yes, a little bias here, but it's all good, because all three of these videos are amazingly good, and each one is all about one of the Inner Senshi.
Venus in the Bottle is, obviously, about Minako. AKA Sailor Venus, and tries to show the differences between Minako and Venus, and how Minako deals with her own hardships. It's an inspirational video with a good upbeat song and meaningful imagery for the character.
Blue Mercury, about Ami, AKA Sailor Mercury, shows her character truly, as a great friend, but also a shy girl who has a bit of social anxiety. The song and imagery blend very well, and all in all, the video is very well done.
Dreams of Red, in my opinion, is probably the greatest of the three, which makes some sense because it's the latest of them. It ceters around Rei, AKA Sailor Mars, and includes the tear-jerking scene from episode 198 that anyone who has seen Sailor Stars will know, complete with text. Very well done, subtitles have been removed meticulously from the source, as with all three of these videos, and the whole feel of the AMV is amazing.
It's a shame, he retired from making AMVs before making a vbideo for poor Makoto

I was thinking about these vids the other day. These are the first AMVs I ever saw. All I was looking for was a SM episode, and look at the spiral that happened because I found Aluminum's site and the link to the org. Was that really 2001 (when I created the original jubjub account)?
