Forgot to mention it earlier, but one thing I REALLY dig about this video is the use of color. The video is comprised almost completely of reds, browns, greens and black, with little use of bright colors. It gives the video an almost menacing feel, which compliments the song very well, so props to you for that.

Wow Nostromo...just...wow.

I thought I loved Magic Pad but this...it just flowed. The video flowed better than the music.

Now my video is for shame =(

After watching it for the 4th time in 20 min...I have noticed one thing that you did well. You captured the "essence" of the genre of music. This is the type of music I listen to day in and out. Some people think that the video feels like it has no real "ending" or "intro" but placed to this music I think its perfect.

That, and I am so putting this on my PS3 hard drive in about 2 minutes.

Well, I don't have any fancy stamps of approval to give and I had to read through the entire thread before I felt I could properly respond, but I do have something to say that hopefully doesn't feel redundant with the rest of the thread.

Artistically, this video is simply gorgeous. I loved your use of color. It works well to the blend the different sources, and it really helps to build a central theme throughout the piece. The red in the beginning is more subdued than it becomes in the end, and reminds me very much of a red sunrise. (That saying "red sun in the morning is a sailor's warning" was one of the first thoughts that occurred to me especially with the lyrics of the song). The idea of shifting to blue for the "calm before the storm" effect towards the middle of the amv was very effective. The blue section definitely gave a "cleaner" feeling than the rest of the amv which I think emphasized the "emergence" feel of the section. Especially when transitioning into the hard beats of the final part and eventually giving way to the "dangerous red".

You had numerous sections where the sheer detail you put in should be noted, but if I went through each individual part we'd be here all day, so I'd like to summarize by saying I really appreciate the painstaking work you must've put in to go in and alter the text in spots to fit with the video, or just change a couple of elements in the background. I didn't really notice them until after multiple watch throughs, but I think that's the point; they seemed to be little touches to make those parts flow with the video better and it really worked well.

In regards to the song: I really get the impression that this mix is really polarizing. Either you liked it or it wasn't your cup of tea. For the record, it really bugs me when people dock music not on account of it not fitting the piece, but because they didn't like it. We aren't here to judge everyone's musical tastes. Did it flow well with the visuals, and did the two work together to create an exceptional piece? In this case, I truly think it did. Did I personally enjoy the song? Yeah, but I've found our music tastes tend to be similar, and I've, on principal, never docked a video for just disliking the music. Please excuse the momentary rant.

Moving on... I really enjoy the lip sync in this piece. I read a lot of comments that it seemed to come out of nowhere in the end and was 'jarring', and I'm kind of wondering what amv they were watching :P It's very clearly in the beginning as well, it's just not as prominent. That works, I think, because your beginning sections seems more "foretelling" and "be warned" than narrative and "guardianship" as the ending feels. There's a flow and a story in the video that you execute quite well.

For all my gushing, there are a few mild criticisms. First being the sometimes overuse of filters that I feel negates the beauty of the footage and frankly makes it hard to understand what's going on sometimes. If that's what you were going for at around 3:40-3:47 esque, good job, but it still bugs me (especially the noise filter and the up sizing that I think was mentioned earlier in the thread). Mainly it's a gripe because of the video is so meticulously cared for that little bits and forgotten pieces stand out more. Your scene selection is one of your better qualities as an editor, but I felt some of the anime you chose for the piece didn't really fit in with the rest. I don't know what it is so I'll just point out the times: 1:39 (good scene, but seems out of place), 2:18 and 2:21 could've been better if it wasn't a loli-girl. Basically, the amv feels really 'adult' and except for a few scenes (like the walking on the sky kid) I really think you should have kept with older characters. Perhaps it's a personal gripe, but it is, at times, bothersome.

In regards to the more technical aspects of 60fps and encoding... Perhaps I'm jaded from my video gaming which I always try to have higher than 40 fps in, but I love the 60fps - absolutely love it. It was quite possibly the only way you could have made this piece more visually stunning and the mentioned "after affects" of the process are nearly invisible resulting only in disgustingly smooth footage that is simply gorgeous. I'm wondering why, though, when asked for an mp4 version you downsized the amv? Part of the reason I love the codec is you can keep your footage at 720p @ 60FPS and still achieve the smaller file size. Don't get me wrong, you clearly actually know what you're doing with the DivX encode because it's beautiful, and I have the space to spare on my hdd for the file size, but I would would trade making my cpu work a little more each time I watch this movie for always having a smaller file size in a heartbeat.

In summary; I loved this video and think it stands on its own. 9.5/10 and wishing for an MP4 version of 720p @ 60fps.

Awesome!

You never cease to amaze me, outdoing your previous AMV every time!

5/5, although I feel it deserves more.
