Jerky Video With TMPGEnc?

Post by Kero777 » Tue Aug 19, 2008 5:00 pm

My AMV is progressive at 23.976 fps. I'm using the 3:2 pulldown option in TMPEnc to convert it to an MPEG-2 that is interlaced at 29.97fps. Problem is, I've noticed that when I use the 3:2 pulldown, scenes with a lot of motion in them (moving from side to side, or up-down etc.) have been slightly jerky. I'm using the TMPEnc template given here. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Now that I think of it I'm not sure that "jerky" is the right word. It's basically just not as smooth as the original Huffy file when scenes are panning or moving.

take a look at the settings and make sure Motion Search Precision is set to highest quality.

Thanks for your response. :D Yes, I always set Motion Search Precision to "Highest Quality [Very Slow]." This problem seems to have started recently, although maybe I just never noticed it before.

I thought maybe there was something wrong with my video, but I checked other videos of mine and the results still don't come out completely smooth.

I did a couple of tests with different videos. I realized if I don't use the 3:2 pulldown and leave it at it's original framerate: progessive 23.976, I don't really notice the problem half as much, but it's still there just a tiny bit.

Is there anything else I can try?
