Last year all they took was VHS submissions. I have a feeling that will not change this year. :shock:

The only problem I had with the A-kon AMV contest was the amount and type of awards given. If I remember correctly, they had "Most Artistic", "Judge's Choice", "Crowd's Choice", and some strange mixture of "Judge's Choice" and "Crowd's Choice". Don't quote me on that though, the con was a good while ago. It just doesn't seem like that set of awards is really going to recognize all the videos that deserve recognition, especially since I think they let the same video win the "Crowd's Choice" and the combined award. I really prefer contests that at least categorize videos into action/drama/comedy at least; and if they have more categories that's even better.

I hope Akon will actually inform people if their videos even arrive there. I got no confirmation and I had to wait till someone posted their contest report just to know I made it in. :?

Oh, the joys of A-kon!

I entered two videos in the A-kon contest last year and two more in the showcase for the sole reason that my sister and I had never entered anything before and thought it would be fun to just give it a go. ^_^; The two in the contest that we entered were from Final Fantasy X, and while I got quite a bit of positive feedback from people that saw them, I think that the A-kon crowd leans more towards the comedic videos. My There You'll Be video was painfully dramatic, which is the way we intended it to be, but I don't think the drama was well received. However, I did speak to a group of people afterwards that were raving about "that beautiful Final Fantasy X video with the Pearl Harbor song in it" (which was mine!), so I think it just depends on the people. I wasn't aware that only selected videos made it into the actual contest, so that's kind of something in itself.

My personal advice in terms of submitting is to just go for it - I'm going to submit another Final Fantasy X work this year and just have some fun with it .. because that's what the contest and such is really all about. So don't worry as much about the crowd .. just create something that you're proud of and have fun.

And Jase, if that's you, this is Yunie from the A-kon boards. ^_^;

Its not to much of a hassle unless they dont show your AMV AT THE CONVENTION DURING THE CONTEST, ARGH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *waves fist at the sky. Anyways I was quite satified after I sent mine off last year, if I had only entered Smash Bitches maybe I could have won.

WOW! :shock: This thread was hella old...

Anyways, when you walked downstairs, you needed to go to your right, ALL the way. When you get to that wall at the end you'll see a hall way to your left, if you take that hall way, the AMV room was the first right in that hall way, HUGE SCREEN playing AMVs in there with a bunch of chairs.
