have you seen bloodlust? because vampire hunter D and vampire hunter D bloodlust are 2 VERY different movies.

Shamaic Princess was a real visual treat, I'll agree, and I liked the story too.

The background artist for Shamanic Princess was the same as that which worked on VHD: Bloodlust. I can't say much for Bloodlust as a whole, but the backgrounds were indeed spiffy.

I thought Metropolis had some nice animation. Definitely something different from the usual. :D

God, have ANY of you seen seen the Cowboy Bebop movie? Jesus Christ, look at those backrounds! Those fight scenes! That CG! Those characters...those *drools*

The artwork in the Rurouni Kenshin OVAs, including Seisouhen, had incredible looking art.

Patlabor 2 looked incredibly sweet as well. Spirited Away was sweeping and imaginative with its art and animation as well.

I also drooled over:

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
FLCL
End of Evangelion
Princess Mononoke
Metropolis
Cowboy Bebop TV
Gundam 0083
Escaflowne movie
X (movie and TV)
Spriggan
1001 Nights
Memories
Jin-Roh

I know I'll think of more...
I love purty things!

This looks more like a best animation quality list than a animation art list. It's like saying XXX is artisticly better than Citizen Kane.

I haven't had a chance to read other people's replies

so I'm sorry if I bring up a movie that has already been talked about.

However, as far as ARTISTIC goes, I think the Utena movie is one of the most gorgeous films I have ever seen.

As a quick aside...

if anyone wants to see a wonderful piece of art that happens to be in the form of a movie, I would urge that you see the movie KOYAANISQATSI.

The movie is not animated or anime, but it is a brilliant piece of moving art.
