FUNimation Licenses Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone
I can't believe that nobody has pointed this out yet, but:

So, what do you guys think of this? I would have preferred ADV would gotten it, but still, it's cool that it's officially licensed now.

Funimation?
I also prefer ADV, but Funimation has the fire power to get the better animes.

OH SNAP!!!!
It's not like we haven't seen it before though. Manga licensed the original Evangelion movies and yet they kept the team from ADV to do the translation. Perhaps FUNimation will do the same, especially since they have such close ties with ADV (Thinking of FMP! TSR as an example here).

I think ADV is going under. What with news that Funi is grabbing anime from both ADV and Geneon.
But they're dubs are all good at least to my ears...

It was like a thousand souls cried out in torment, and then were silenced. Heck, I even let out a Vader-esque 'Nooooo!' when I saw the announcement.
Honestly, considering the KlockWorx involvement, I'd have preferred Bandai to get the license (yes, I know that's not an agreement like Viz has with ShoPro, but whatever). If Funi does their own dub I'm going to want to gouge out my ears - I'm fucking sick of hearing the same cast over and over again. Granted, that's a general problem for ADV and a couple others as well, but really.
On that same note, aside from that DBZ HD business, has Funi even released Blu-rays of any of their properties? At least Bandai might have had the resources to do so.

They pretty much share all their actors though . . .Qyot27 wrote:If Funi does their own dub I'm going to want to gouge out my ears - I'm fucking sick of hearing the same cast over and over again. Granted, that's a general problem for ADV and a couple others as well, but really.

It's a matter of location. Funi and ADV are both based primarily in Texas, hence why there seems to be higher overlap than others. Some of the other companies, based on which dub studio they hire, may or may not get the same actors - Funi and ADV both use in-house dubbing, and the cast lists are typically in very short form (i.e. throw in their most popular ones, and sit back and watch as the fan kiddies eat it all up). All the companies are guilty of having small talent pools, but it's just that those two are the most egregious offenders.xexyzl wrote:They pretty much share all their actors though . . .Qyot27 wrote:If Funi does their own dub I'm going to want to gouge out my ears - I'm fucking sick of hearing the same cast over and over again. Not that dubs mean much to me at all anymore as I generally default to Japanese w/subs now, but it's the principle behind it all (and as I mentioned, the possibility of a Blu-ray release if such a good master can be obtained).

Hence why the share actors, to cut down on the hey-I-know-that-voice syndrome. My point is, why are people so upset? It's a VERY high likelihood we'll get the same old actors as the original NGE (that's not a bad thing ... well for the most part). Maybe it is more of the fact that people see this as another in a long list of signs that ADV is sinking.Qyot27 wrote: All the companies are guilty of having small talent pools, but it's just that those two are the most egregious offenders.

At Jacon last year, Spike Spencer (voice of Shinji) recommended spamming whoever got the license with requests to keep the old cast... that way he was able to whore himself out for more money.
