For what it's worth, I very much enjoyed your video (I was a judge, albeit only one of many). Made me want to go bust the shrinkwrap off my Kanon DVDs and watch them. I would speculate yours was close.Melichan923 wrote:My video didn't make the cut this year, but grats to all the finalists! I don't recognize many of the submissions, but I'll be downloading them and viewing as soon as I can. Good luck to all.

Yes... many wrist slashing jokes ensued after the drama category was finally put to rest last year, I recall.Melichan923 wrote:That was a smart idea to try to break the drama videos into sections. As much as I enjoy AMVs (and Drama has always been my favorite category) 67 videos back to back, especially with sad elements to them would be pretty hard to take!
Though this year there were a number of drama videos that were pretty heavy, angsty, and/or sad, if done well a drama vid can be just as uplifting as it can be dark.

Oh yes, trust me, that does means a lot to me! That made me feel a whole lot better about not making it in especially since this one carries a very special message. I'm glad you liked it and thank you very much. ^_^xstylus wrote:For what it's worth, I very much enjoyed your video (I was a judge, albeit only one of many). Lol, I bet there were!! XD I love seeing uplifting drama videos since the majority seem to be angsty/dark.xstylus wrote:Yes... many wrist slashing jokes ensued after the drama category was finally put to rest last year, I recall.

Re: TheAX AMV Contest 2009 Finalists are...
I'm surprised though, my 5cm AMV got in (Monsoon), I never really expected it to get in due the stereotype that people have on the anime with AMVs and the fact that it's in the Drama category gave me more doubts. Was it the last one one tallied out seeing how its the last one on the list? Or did it get in by the stroke of luck? I saw a few others that were entered and never got in, and I thought those were way better; like Curtains Call for example.xstylus wrote:Yes... many wrist slashing jokes ensued after the drama category was finally put to rest last year, I recall.Melichan923 wrote:That was a smart idea to try to break the drama videos into sections. Won't really expect to win with it though. Though I did get 2 AMVs in this year, and you know what that means. Unlimited bragging rights.

I say drama is the most up in the air category. It is hard what people will feel in reaction to your video.Ryvannis wrote: I'm surprised though, my 5cm AMV got in (Monsoon), I never really expected it to get in due the stereotype that people have on the anime with AMVs and the fact that it's in the Drama category gave me more doubts. Getting in is just enough for finalists. I knew some guy in 2006 that had submitted to AX AMV contest for 7 years straight and he 'never' made it into the finalists :\ sooooo yeah.
Your video conveyed a good message, it matched very well with Kanon/Air/Clannad as each of those stories can relate to your song 'very' closely. which is why i thought it was a good concept.Melichan923 wrote: Aw, thanks MilkManDan! ^_^ That makes me happy to hear.
I guess the down fall is, if people haven't seen those series, they might feel a little distant to it.
but in any event, very good video.

Re: TheAX AMV Contest 2009 Finalists are...
Found the problem. I was trying to save to DV NTSC and either my lappy doesn't have that encoder codec on it or something. I told it to save as an MOV with h.264 and it converted like a champ and Premiere liked it. So it appears that it was just the .mp4 wrapper that Premiere didn't like. Maybe they will fix that in the next itteration.HalOfBorg wrote:Quoted Image converted to link:

The vids are in no particular order. Give yourself a little credit, eh? Traditionally, drama is by far the fiercest category to compete in. If you got in, you absolutely deserved to get in, believe me. Your video has to be firing on all cylinders to make it to the finals in that category.Ryvannis wrote: I'm surprised though, my 5cm AMV got in (Monsoon), I never really expected it to get in due the stereotype that people have on the anime with AMVs and the fact that it's in the Drama category gave me more doubts.
