Vagrant Story (Yes, I made an AMV for a 10 year old game)

Post by etherealqueen » Wed Jun 03, 2009 4:55 pm

Video: Hush
Song: Angel - 8mm
Anime: Vagrant Story
Categories: Serious, Sentimental, Tribute

This video is kind of my tribute to Vagrant Story. I heard the song and thought they went well together... Joshua and Sydney are kind of at the heart of the video. People who aren't familiar with the game probably won't understand a thing about what's going on, but I welcome feedback on my editing as well as the rest.

Thanks for taking the time to check it out!

Wow! That was really something. I didn't know what to expect - I'm not familiar with the source, but honestly that left an extremely good impression.

For all the potential complaints about horrid old graphics, and it might be my age speaking here (I grew up on games of that era), but I thought there was real charm in the way you handled those twitchy old sprite graphics with subtle, simple, but serious editing. There was a ton of atmosphere here and while I only caught a gist of story, you paced the scenes well and my interest was kept well. As it developed, you just went from one athmospheric scene to another. It's actually kinda amazing how cinematic something with crude graphics like this could get.

Big props to you for even taking on something like that. It was really refreshing to see a source like this treated seriously and with enough care to preserve the atmosphere. Even though I never played this game, it made me massively nostalgic for those days. Well done. While I have to admit a lot of credit here is due to the game itself and its strange (by today's standards) twitchy cinematic style, it was nice to see. It kind of made my day, even
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Wow, that's pretty high praise!

If you're interested in the game, there are some playthroughs on YouTube that you can check out. I'd say it's well worth it, old game or not.
