InspZenigata wrote:This is a freakin great idea. The reworked AMV Salad3 flows much better and actually funnier than the initial BETA. I think if we used that idea, the L&O bits could put it over the top! :D
I say go for it.
My idea for them was like starting simple, like:
Otakon
Baltimore, WA
July, 2009

then something really random like:
The Moon
Eternal Crater
Winter Solstice, Half Past Ebbing Crescent (This I just threw out there, there's definitely something much better, especially if it can ironically relate to the clip before/after)

Then like:
Behind You
Right Now, Don't Look
OH SHI-!

or something. I forget how many knocks there actually were. Pulled them out of my ass quickly, but you get the idea... although I must say I'm partial to the last one :D
(Quick side note, the "Jump!" Death Note clip is still off sync, can you fix that please?)

EDIT:

Oh yeah, can you please remove the 'mac' and 'pc' text from the To Heart clip as well? :) Oddly enough the intel logo seems to actually work better than I thought (Hopefully everyone agrees). But the initial text seems to subconsciously set up the watcher to recognize that something computer related is coming up, so it removes a large chunk of the joke's surprise.

I'm beginning to wonder if this thing is ever going to be done.

Anyway, here's the info on the beta test.

Anime Mid Atlantic
Saturday, June 20
10pm
Panel 3 (Ballroom C)

Then it's on to three glorious showings during Otakon's nightly parodies.

Yeah, need to find out if a "switch" is possible...

Awesomeness, glad it gets a trial run. Are you going to get audience reactions and stuff so we can see how they take it?

Speaking of which I watched it again and wanted to suggest the addition of test patterns between clips at 4:49, 5:28, 6:54, 10:10, 14:07 (also there's two seconds of dead space after the clip that breaks the flow), 14:53, 15:47, and 16:08 (You can cut off a bit of the silence with the Men's Wearhouse logo too, added it in for that reason). Also, I'm not sure if it'll help or hurt, but I'd also suggest trying to add test patterns between the clips before the bumps and the bumps themselves to hear how it sounds. It may give a bit extra to the clips or it may be too much.

Also I'm confused about the german clip, Krvabo... honestly I don't know what it is. I had to check the credits to find out what it's from, watch the MTV Gunther commercial, and still don't understand what it's trying to do. It doesn't show her saying she's german, so I don't feel any connection. Also, it looks like the audio's really off at the beginning, then syncs up when he/she goes 'sheizer' if I use the original as a determinant. Can you explain what you're trying to do?

I intentionally left the test patterns out before and after each set of commercials. Those separators were only to signify that the segments of "regular" clips are part of AMV Salad and the commercials / bumpers are there to interrupt the show. Placing the separators in between the commercials would negate the effect of watching an [adult swim] programming slot.

As for krvabo, the clips you are looking at had a strange glitch. I zoomed in to see what the problem might be and found "ghost frames" in between every other. As I explained to krvabo, let's say x represents the last frame of the clip. The frames looked like 1x2x3x4x5x6x7x...and it messed up the length and speed of the video segment. I could split the video from the audio in those clips, chop the end of each video where it starts to freeze, slow down the playback on it, stretch it to fit the audio length, and rejoin the two components. Unless something was supposed to happen after the last image we see on the clips as they are now, that's about all I can do to adjust. Let me know if that's okay, krvabo..?

I gotchya, and looking carefully you're absolutely right, test patterns leading into each AS bump would be a bit much. Some of the ones I mentioned though may be worth checking out (specifically I think my FMA Fish tank clip's ending would be greatly improved by a test pattern cutoff at a half beat like I mentioned in the e-mail since it was one of the ones I designed for it, and don't worry about the little audio after he finishes 'tank' I put that in to cut off audience laughter and him saying something else after, not to lengthen the still frame).

And have you considered that the AS bump that goes after Tim and Eric, Drinky Crow, etc. may alienate audience members who actually like those shows? It's subjective of course. Many people like Tim and Eric for often inexplicable reasons, and could make some people uncomfortable and ruin the mood a bit.

Look at the very top of that bumper and notice the night specified. Would you prefer that schedule to having your anime? I think not, and I'm sure the majority (if not all) of the viewing audience would agree. :P

Aha, I see what you're goin' for. I think the issue is that you comment about the shows rather than the day the shows are on. If you wanted to not alienate people, instead of 'these are all lame' you could make it about Saturday instead, like "If this is to be our Saturdays, feel free to divide by zero" or something. That way it's more referring to the lack of Saturday Anime as opposed to dissing the shows.

Hehe, and actually that made me think about the one where it's a full night of anime. My first thought was 'why would I care? I watch them subtitled anyway' so what if you changed it to "Subtitled anime in OMG Green" instead? That'll be more appetizing for the audience who, chances are, have laptops in their hotel room downloading every episode that just came out that afternoon on AnimeSuki ^^

About the clips;

Yeah they are really screwed up, and I never knew about the ghost frames (until I was told ;) ), it is in like 4 of my 6 clips. The clips were 2 years old at least.
I remade 2 of them and re-encoded the other 2, but Deuce didnt use them in the final. No wonder really, he was already encoding and nearing the deadline.

To be honest I dislike the Günther clip myself.
It was the first commercial I tried and I even edited it (the original audio). When Deuce said we shouldn't I forgot about it and went on to other clips (which turned out a lot better; hyakko - reservoir dogs and haruhi - guitar hero).
Really, the video looks a lot better when watching the original, but when put in the salad it just.. looks horrendous. It's actually pretty well synced.
The joke might be lost when you don't know the original commercial.

If the re-encode didn't work I suggest to Deuce that he leaves it out of the final final final.

Btw, the 'if god was one of us' has the same problem.
The 'silicon chip inside her head' I remade to give some extra room for the transition and the same goes for 'like an egyptian', I also remade that. I urge Deuce to use the clips I sent him so It doesn't make me want to poke my eyes out :P

There's a real problem between encodes made in Adobe Premiere Pro CS2 and Vegas 7 (I believe?). The CS4 encodes I made didnt have that problem.

I definitely like your other ones, but the Gunther one I'm sorry to say doesn't seem to land for me even after I'd seen the commercial :( I'm not sure it's a large enough 'meme' that the audience would make the connection and may take them out of the mood trying to figure it out, so personally I agree with you that it may be worth taking it out. The Haruhi one is great because it's a double joke, them playing that song specifically is great in and of itself without any reference, then the guitar hero logo adds to it as well. And Reservoir Dogs is well.... Reservoir Dogs ^^ I haven't even seen the movie, but it's iconic enough that even I get it.

The only other clips off the top of my head I see need serious attention are Dezbo21's Now63 one because of the text artifacting so it needs to be re-rendered (it's also a bit too long for me personally, the joke only really needs 45 seconds instead of a minute and a half), and the first clip with Bird is the Word where the dancing is extremely awkward ^^ Seems like it was made so fast the render switched frames or something.
