Re: What to do!?
Eh, convenience is compiling x264 yourself, as long as you know what you're doing. Takes probably no more than 10 minutes for me, and my setup is almost 9 years old (note: that's just x264, not x264+lavf+ffms2 which a lot of the new builds are since the ability was introduced back in the middle of January).
Thing is, though, the response of even a nominal 'advanced' editors to that idea is going to be similar to that of a newbie hearing a bunch of technical terms thrown at them for the first time, because most nominal 'advanced' editors don't compile things themselves, it's only a small subset that do (and I'd wager that most of them probably have at least a working relationship with Linux, which is part of the reason why).

Re: What to do!?
name one non linear video editor that supports soft subs. Also, I will never install an RSS reader and nobody should because they are both annoying, a waste of resources, etc. only processes I run are stripped down windows core, steam, and utorrent. Everything else is given idle priority, and I don't run antivirus since I don't get viruses.Nya-chan Production wrote:Okay, now read the first post carefully... does it sound like a guy who can understand what is "TIVTC, DGIndex, DVDDecrypter, IMGBurn, msmooth, asharpen, derainbow, and undot" and that you can use Aegisub while making not AMVs in literal sense (btw, the thing you mentioned can be done in Vegas/Premiere too, since OPs and such have mostly static subs).

Heard of RSS feeds and such?

Excuse me, but the last time I checked, the actual openings (not karaoke, but credits and such) weren't softsubbed, but in the image.kickass331 wrote:name one non linear video editor that supports soft subs. Re: What to do!?
i'm talking about things like karaoke in ass files and such, like gg's r2 subs. Some people like leaving their source intact, and allowing people with high resolution monitors to allow for native hd subs on sd media. Also, it is nice to have the option to turn off repositioned subtitles for things like signs and editor's notes, when they detract from the image because they are given absolute placement relative to the resolution. the name slipped my mind, but you can see this on a lot of dvds that have multiple english subtitle selections, for titles and subs, subs, or just karaoke subs, etc. with vegas, only option is to have all three at the same res as the video burned into the image, aka hard subs, which can look terrible on hdtvs, even after upscaled. code geass r2 is 720p and on my 1920x1200 16:10 monitor everything is FABULOUS (pun intended) since KFX are on the black borders at top and bottom and are at full hd resolution. I am getting a 2560x1600 monitor and the impact of softsubs will be twice as grand on that. It is still better even on 16:9 tvs, however.Nya-chan Production wrote:Excuse me, but the last time I checked, the actual openings (not karaoke, but credits and such) weren't softsubbed, but in the image.kickass331 wrote:name one non linear video editor that supports soft subs. Re: What to do!?
This thread is:
A) In the wrong forum. He's asking about Blu-ray and Blu-ray alternatives. Sounds more like a General Video question.
B) Getting lamer by the moment.
I think Nya effectively answered the question, and waffle pointed out that players are now cheap.
Get a player. Use a well established ripper. I'm testing out MakeMKV, because the process is a bit more limited on Mac, but there are several options on the windows side. ??? Profit! Alternately, if you own (and only if you own!) the Blu-ray discs already, you may acquire MKVs elsewhere.

Re: What to do!?
Right, this is more into the Video forums. You can use a GUI for extracting video files from the container MKV (here), convert that video to lossless (so it's less buggy; there are many guides in the main site explaining that) and then edit with the resulting video track (and/or audio track).
