I guess that I was just making a big deal out of nothing. Thanks everyone for giving me your opinions.CodeZTM wrote:I've been wanting to rework older AMV's a ton of times, just with minor scene changes, mostly because I dug the combo and wanted to see it slightly different. Then again, I honestly don't see any issue in what you're asking. I mean... Stealing the effects from Skittles would be blatantly wrong, but stealing an overused scene in every anime known to man would be fine.

Hey dude,
don't be too sad
take a bad vid
and make it better.
Remember to cut it at the right part,
and then you will start
to edit better.

If you're going to rip someone off at least give them credit for the original idea. And if possible ask for their permission, that is all.

I've done this before, actually. And I may do it again, there's another video I feel has an awesome idea but awful execution. Thanks for reminding me of it.
I don't see anything wrong with it, as long as you give the correct person(s) credit for the idea. I can see how some people may find take offense to other people redoing their videos, but honestly, I say just get over it. No idea is original, and so long as proper credit is given, you should be happy that someone found your idea intriguing enough to want to see it done right in their eyes.

Re: Is it wrong to copy an idea to edit it better?
The only time I've used scenes from another amv was parts that weren't edited at all, edited parts would just be cheap and wrong imo, unless it was somehow suppost to be part of youre video's theme, like some sort of parody etc. It isnt that bad if you give them credit, I mean technically it's almost the same as using an anime intro in your amv or maybe even the anime itself because those were all made by someone else.

There's no problem. That's like the use of effects. Just because I used an effect doesnt mean that nobody else can use it too. In the same way, scenes from animes in amvs can't be owned by anybody.
Crow, what about extending an incomplete amv from an editor?

You should have seen the drama that went down here in 2001 back when this was the "phorum" concerning this..... Machine vs. ErMaClokitocatracho wrote:There's no problem. No. We are the remix culture. We take things edit them and create better or entirly new things.
It's alright as long as you never deny the idea's origin.
