Virtualdub + Saving Avi (x264vfw) = problem
Hi, I used Fraps to capture video in .avi format, and then use virtualdub 1.9.9 to convert it to.. AVI.. using the compression of x264 everything went prefectly, until I format my pc and using the same configs (as I exported it in 'Save processing settings') the video stays like this
If someone could lend me an hand I would be appreciate, thanks for reading =)
PS: I have AviSynth installed.

Well, I want to use a codec where I don't loose quality, and that drops me the size of the video, could you advice one then ?

H.264 in .avi, while technically possible, is a really really really bad idea due to the container's restrictions and hacky nature of the support for that codec. If you want to do an AVC video, then use a .mp4 or .mkv container. For the former, an easy way is to use zarx264gui, a guide of which you can find here.

And xvid in avi doesn't use those same hacks? </stolen quote>mirkosp wrote:H.264 in .avi, while technically possible, is a really really really bad idea due to the container's restrictions and hacky nature of the support for that codec. That's why people should entirely stop using avi for distro!TheRyuu wrote:And xvid in avi doesn't use those same hacks? </stolen quote>mirkosp wrote:H.264 in .avi, while technically possible, is a really really really bad idea due to the container's restrictions and hacky nature of the support for that codec. Re: Virtualdub + Saving Avi (x264vfw) = problem
I had the same problem with Fraps videos I was trying to backup before I started making AMVs. Am I correct that you're trying to use Virtualdub to make avi files using x264's lossless option? I've never gotten that to work, but the good news is that you can achieve what you are trying to achieve. If the files have to be lossless, I would suggest UTVideo or Lagarith. UTVideo is what I normally suggest for making clips for AMVs, but lagarith will give you slightly better compression at the cost of speed. Since you captured the video with Fraps, the colorspace will be RGB, so pick that as your option in whichever codec you decide to use.
