I wanted to mention this earlier but I felt like I didn't have the grounds to assume... I didn't know him at all, but would it be a safe assumption to say he's the type of person to be cheerful and playful even at the end? Maybe that was his way of letting people know he felt a certain way, by making it seem as if he was being himself, he really was trying to have someone, or in this case the community hear him out.
