As long as the setup is anime the explosion can be from any source, live-action or whatever.

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal (FIRST CALL for final submission
All righty, awesome, just got a response from Scott in an e-mail about the fan parody Intro where I also asked him about time frame. Here's the official word:
"The first deadline (May 27th) is the "give me something that I
can show, but you can keep working on it" deadline. If I get that,
along with program guide descriptions, then I will make sure it's in
the show and gets promotion. The real deadline for "finished" version
is the June 24th one. That's when I need it to get the files onto the
server and make sure it all balances out."
So we just got an extra month to work with everything and get a couple extra clips in and repair others as long as we get the file in with a guaranteed length of time. I told him 25-30 minutes, and he gave it 30, which we'll probably need. We may even go a bit over at this rate ^^

Goodness...it always seems so much farther away then it actually is.

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal (FIRST CALL for final submission
I take nothing for granted.
There always seems to be more time than we actually have, considering y'all have those things called lives.
I'll just say let's get this thing done with time to spare for fine tuning.
Aside from those who seriously need the extension, there will be no more entries accepted after 11:59pm EST June 1.
I'm gonna send whatever we have to Scott by the first deadline so he has an idea what to expect.

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal (FIRST CALL for final submission
It's the concept of projects expanding to the time allowed, as usual ^^ He needs it by the first deadline anyway, but after that we can update on the FTP or however it's transferred. We have until the end of June to update, but he definitely needs it done, credits and all, by the May deadline. The cool thing with that is if we get new ideas for credit clips and such we can easily update those without changing length, and it gives me some leeway on the intro characters. I'm halfway done with the third character now.Deuce Loosely wrote:I take nothing for granted.

Oh, one small thing, in the 'What does this button do?" one, you may want to cut a few frames sooner, like show the keyboard for "Button do" instead of cutting directly to it. It's a bit too fast, but don't cut too soon, or the audience will catch on and be ahead of the joke ^^ That's key, is to keep ahead of their perceptions on the joke timing. That's why I love youtube poops, they are ALL about that. One idea that might be good for the dead center or latter half of the production would be just a guy standing there, waits a moment, then lights a cigarette and it explodes without warning. But again it has to happen fast enough so they don't see it ^^
Is this better?

Hehe, yes, it is ^^ But this time, now that the timing's more solid, I noticed you used a higher-pitched click, probably because it's a keyboard? I don't even know why, but now that I notice it, I'm realizing that for some reason the deeper click just comes off funnier. It could be because you used the sound of batman opening something, so it has this sort of quick double-click to it. That may be why. It almost comes off as a weakened connection. That'd be my mistake, I totally hadn't noticed that aspect before that that click noise itself held so much of the impact O_O I love learning new thingsSammySamaProductions wrote: Is this better?

Anyway, I think if we can get away with it, we should try and be consistent with the two sounds. The same click, and the same boom. If we're going to change the explosion imagery out, we need to have the audio consistency so that the repetition becomes subconsciously recognizable. If we were to only have the explosion sound be the same, it would still connect, but the click and the explosion work so strongly I think it'll strengthen not just the clip, but also the entire running gag. You proved that to me unequivocally with the jackpot explosion ^^
Oh yes! One other thing about the jackpot one. I loved it, but after watching it several times the other day (yes, I still love it ^^) I noticed what it was in the back of my mind that made its ending feel odd. It's the explosion footage. He's in this posh casino and then suddenly the explosion is of a cliff edge or something. I think the 'what does this one do' one lands stronger because the explosion's in a window and the mind can connect the indoors scene and the explosion.
I could be wrong though. I found a quick building explosion in Toaru Kagaku no Railgun to give a quick test. Give it a shot and see what you think:

The aspect ratios will be off of course, I'd say just scale them to fit, it shouldn't cause any problems.
Anyway, if you can take a moment to switch it out, can you update it and post again for a comparison? I'm curious whether it'll make a difference.

sure I'll download that and switch it out now. ^_^ as for the click/explosion sounds being consistent, if we decide on a single set there's no problem with me switching mine out when we go to do the final render.

Though I used the explosion audio that was with the clip as opposed to the stock audio. This can be switched out when we decide on a set explosion noise.

Hehe, yeah, visually it does seem to have a stronger connection. Your original was great too. And unless anyone thinks they have a funnier over-the-top explosion noise, I think the one from the batman youtube poop is the one we'll be using (the one you've been using until now). That 'after' clip is a great test for that as well. You can tell after listening to that how the loudness and immediacy of the other explosion adds to the joke. I never put this much thought into why I found it funny, but I'm learning a lot from this. So yeah, go with the original click-boom combo. I didn't even realize audio was still in the clip, VirtualDub usually errors about the audio ^^SammySamaProductions wrote:I like the new explosion much better ^_^Gaelstrom wrote: Anyway, if you can take a moment to switch it out, can you update it and post again for a comparison? One thing I didn't think about when I sent the clip though. The first few frames seem to take away the immediacy. See if you can cut off the first few frames and make the first frame that shows of the explosion the one with the first bit of yellow comes out the window. I'd be doing these experiments myself if it was my clip, sorry ^^ I'm doing my best with the intro now.
