So I used to make amvs, and it made me happier then anything. Before I was stuck with windows movie maker then moved on to the laggyiest version of vegas video, possibly because of my computer, but you can imagine. from there I kind of branched off into "real life" trying to get by and it didn't work for me in any way possible. jobs impossible to find, and school was actually too expensive for me until i recently found out how to work school grants. I found out recently that three years ago my mom sent my amv's into ucla and i got a full ride scholorship but she denied it because she knew i didn't want to leave home for college.... but either way i want to get back into making amvs because i hadn't been happier in my life. And I am ready to drop everything to make my living out of video editing because it is the one thing i've never had a complaint about in my life. I'd love to turn my amv's into a career if i could. I am currently looking for a computer since i don't even have one now that will preform at its best in video editing. From my parents my grandparents and aunts/uncles and myself we have made it up to $600. if anyone can help me find a laptop (since i'm homeless atm) i can have the help of family members to buy a new computer to get back into this area in my life that had a huge effect on me. ^_^ so if anyone knows where to find reliable laptops at a cheaper price please and pleeeaasseee let me know =) Thank you to anyone that helps, if you help me get back into amv making at least and video editing.... you'd really change my life right now and I would want to hear from you. Thank you for taking your time to read this......... AND HAPPY AMV'N! ;D
Thanks you!

http://www.delloutlet.com/ got me a really nice deal on a refurbished laptop that I bought back in 06' and is still reliably working. Plus, it's moderately "cheap". Newegg.com is also a lovely source.
But if you're homeless, why not use the raised money for something moderately more substantive... Such as.... A home?

Definitely would follow Code's advice though and work your way in getting a place to stay. Also focus on getting a part-time job to maintain your residence as well as save up money. Video editing jobs are very hard to come by these days and when you do get one, you won't be making any money starting off. It's one of those jobs where you have to put A LOT of money and investments into it.

I think I remember one of your videos from a past Anime Expo. Welcome back!
If you wanna start editing for a living, then read this thread I made first:

I am starting to make a little money off editing my own stuff now, but I'm also producing, writing, directing and acting too.

What Castor said.
Can you use other design programs? I supplement my income by designing brochures, business cards, simple stuff that takes me a few minutes to throw together but that I can get paid for. If you have the willpower to figure out the editing software and create vids, you could make a few dollars by learning some design software, though starting out you'll probably be using a combination of gimp/sai/and whatever that free vector program is.
For the laptop I 2nd newegg. They have good prices and most of the products have reviews, so you can read about any sort of bugs or problems a particular model might end up having. You should be able to pick up a halfway decent laptop for around $600 from there. For example, just searching in your price range and then sorting by "best rating" I get:

I own an Asus netbook, the thing is a little beast. It even runs 3dsmax ._o Good luck!
