Vegas closes itself when rendering

Post by Animated » Thu Jul 26, 2012 5:29 am

Yes, that's all about it... This started yesterday, I tried to export my full video in Huffyuv and suddenly, around 47% (in 50% it is finished, Huffyuv always did this to me) Vegas closes itself without a reason. Tried to export it again and this thing continued to happen. I thought there was a problem with one of my clips so I rendered seperately the first and the second part of the video, and all went perfect - but as a whole, it crashes. And also forgot to mention, after what happens with Vegas I went to see what was finally exported, and all I have is the first 47 seconds of the video, muted, with a filesize of 5.5 Gbs, the same filesize the full video has (around 5 minutes). So, any safe ideas on what to do? Thank you in advance.

Is there any masking involved? I have had a corrupted mask point cause all sorts of crashes in Vegas. I have also had the "50% is really 100%" thing many times.

Can you try rendering it in sections?

Render to a different lossless codec?

At the specific point where it crashes, there are no masks at all. Tried to render the whole thing in Lagarith, even in mp4 format, always the same thing. Also, as far as I've seen in the preview mode while it renders, it messes up some cookie cutters too by removing the feather. Strange thing is, by rendering my video in sections there is no problem at all! It just doesn't make sense. I'm using Sony Vegas 8.0b Pro in Windows 7 64bit...

Problem might be using Vegas 8. I had nothing but trouble with it under Win7 64bit. Upgraded to Vegas 11 and much improved.

Since rendering it in sections works, do that, load the sections and use them (with no FX/masks/anything) to render the finished clip.

Yes, if I won't find any other solution I'll just render it in three parts fully uncompressed and put it back together as one... I hope there's no quality loss this way :|

Shouldn't be a problem using a lossless codec.

Try rendering in parts with "render loop section only" or copy and paste in a new project. A new project works better because vegas doesn't need to locate all the files in the full project, this take less RAM

Vegas has a button to do pretty much that - I think it's a lightning bolt, by the add new media button. Removes any media that is not in the timeline.
