How has the AMV landscape changed?
Hello everybody. I've basically been M.I.A. for the past 2+ years, for a number of reasons...real life stuff, responsibilities, a huge lack of free time, etc. I haven't edited anything for about that long, mainly due to the fact that I had an aging computer that finally gave up a few weeks ago. But whatever, I got a nice bonus from my job around the time that it died so I finally had as good an excuse as any to get a system worthy of being a part of this decade. As a result, I hope to start editing again...I've missed it, I've missed a lot of you guys, and I love this community. I don't know when I'll be able to actually sit down and put a video together (real life will be hectic for me for the foreseeable future, too much to get anything really substantial completed), but I've been wanting to for a while so it'll happen. Sooner or later.
But that's not the point of this thread.
I'm just wondering for the sake of curiosity, what has changed over the last two years? I'm not referring to specific members, site enhancements, or anything like that. I'm curious about how different it is to be an AMV editor now as compared to then. Are there certain editing trends that have cropped up in the past few years? Has the volume of new AMVs being uploaded to the .org increased or decreased? My guess would be that YouTube has finally won out and most uploads have migrated over there, but I could be wrong. Have things like AMV video quality generally increased over the past years? What animes are popular with editors right now? Gimme the lowdown. Anything you can think of.

There's a change into the motivation behind the amv-making nor to mention how the new generations start now.

Re: How has the AMV landscape changed?
I could actually try to answer this question since I went on hiatus in 2008 and came back in 2011. Maybe it's just my imagination but I noticed a few changes in style:
- Everybody is doing pan/zoom/camera motion/mask transitions
- People have increasingly learned how to AE
- Cross-overs became more popular (Umika's amvs being the best examples here)
- Beat sync is dead
- Amvs look more and more like they're made by graphic designers
About the org:
- Fewer active members, less active forum
- Nobody leaves opinions anymore
- We are still pretentious

Back in my day, we didn't have these fancy editing programs that did all the work for us... you did things the hard way, and people liked it... all videos now adays look the same, with yer fancy shaking and zooming and yer overly shiny and pretty anime shows...

I planted some flowers.
Made a rock garden.
It's supposed to be peaceful but the large rock in the centre of the garden is actually a speaker that loops "God gave rock and roll to you" over and over.
Also my name has had a couple of minor changes and then reverted.

Quite a few edit to MLP on the side, but editing to that has little do do with ANIME Music Video communitymacchinainterna wrote:Everybody edits to MLP now.
