Re: KATSUCON 19 AMV Contest: now open!!!
So I saw this...
Also, MPEG-1? SERIOUSLY???????????????????????????????? That video codec is archaic as ****! If you are going to complain about compression quality, don't even MENTION that!
I am petitioning right now that you removed DIVX, XIVD, and MPEG-1 as compression choices if you do not allow submission of videos using H264 in an MP4 container...
Also...
PS MPEG-2 is more lossy than x264 as well considering the presets everyone uses...assuming they use ZarxGUI or any half decent GUI for x264
After this...** We are NO LONGER accepting mp4, for we are not afraid of larger files and the compression makes for bad visual quality.
So you won't accept MP4s (which typically have H264 compression which is a newer development of the MPEG-4 compression type), yet accept Divx and Xvid (which are older outdated versions of MPEG-4 compression and have LOWER QUALITY than H264) and use compression for bad visual quality as the reason? Are you are MORON?The following formats will be accepted, provided that they meet the above standards:
...
MPEG 2
MPEG 1
...
Divx avi
Xvid avi

Those formats are more lossy compared to AAC...if you are complaining about quality issues, then require PCM audio.Audio:

MPEG audio (mp3, mp2, etc.)

Thank you for your expert advice or whatever.l33tmeatwad wrote:etc etc etc
It would have been nice if a bit of civility were exercised here.
Also...you couldn't have PM'd this to me?
I appreciate the input but really...

Re: KATSUCON 19 AMV Contest: now open!!!
I would also like to know which formats, fps, and audio qualities I am required to be working with at this point. It seems undetermined, even though there are some set in stone in the rules. I personally prefer AAC, 23.976-29.97 FPS, and h.264/mp4. They are amazingly easy to understand and deal with and they keep awesome quality.
I understand how compression, storage space, and memory can be a problem especially with FTPs sometimes, but at the same time I can see what l33tmeatwad is saying, in terms of petitioning.

Okay...so I sent a message to the webmasters saying the following:Iron Solari wrote:I would also like to know which formats, fps, and audio qualities I am required to be working with at this point. * delete mpeg1, XVid avi, and DivX avi
* replace the "no mp4" statement with the following:
"mp4 (must be AAC or h264 compression - no exceptions)"
Does this help?

Well, he does list the prefered FPS, although I doubt he knows what it means because the site says this:Iron Solari wrote:I would also like to know which formats, fps, and audio qualities I am required to be working with at this point. The point of 3:2 pulldown is to restore 29.97fps interlaced footage to 23.976fps progressive...so mentioning it at all since the next line mentions progressive and no interlaced is rather redundant.29.97 fps -OR- 23.976 fps with 3:2 pulldown
Non-Interlaced video (Progressive scan)
Umm...AAC is an audio codec and h264 is a video codec, so you might want to word it "Must be H264 video and AAC Audio", and that would be a good thing. If you really want to be picky about quality, you could require Main or High Profile 4.1 or higher for the video standard, although some quality based encoders might drop to Main Profile 3.1 for some low action 720x480 videos since the quality would be the same and it goes with the lowest needed for that level of compression quality.Deuce Loosely wrote:Okay...so I sent a message to the webmasters saying the following:
