Butterfly & Particle effect?

Hey, I was wondering how to create the kind of particle effects which appear in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wltjfBZwsl4
More specifically, at 0:00-0:25 and 2:45-2:48. I've been killing my brain cells in the process of trying to figure this out .

I use Sony Vegas 12 and AE CS4, and operate on Windows Vista. Im familiar with Vegas, and understand the basics on AE (kinda).

In AEcs4 you can try adjusting settings with Particle World and also try keyframing position of the particles aswell as the inbuilt camera that functions with it.
A pricey option is to use particular plugin from trapcode and that requires a little less effort but more skill.
