AMVing is like Programming...
...once you take 3-4 years off editing, it is very hard to get back into it or you have fallen to a record low. Agree or disagree? =)

you might forget part of the technical aspect, but I think getting ideas or making a story is not soething you will forget.

I agree with the title that it is like programming...But only in the the aspect that ideas keep popping up even if you have already stopped(and i can say more often than when someone edits full time). Technical aspects can be forgotten as tritio said but you cannot stop yourself from thinking

IMO, it helped me get better. I don't think I've made a video as coherent as Daybreak, and I didn't lose anything on the technical side because I constantly have to use that knowledge when not editing.
Also somewhat amusing, a major portion of that hiatus was spent getting more experience in compiling software and (over the last one-two years) contributing patches to stuff.
