Do you enjoy editing?

There will always be so many people way better than you when it comes to almost anything. You have to find some way to accept that but still be happy.

This. When I accepted this, I started enjoying editing so much more, and I think this is when I started actually improving as an editor.

AMV is an underappreciated hobby and it's hard to beat the elite. But the more time you spend on something the better you get.
No matter which hobby it will be the same.

The way I view it, if you view yourself to become the elite eventually, then you'll view all your stuff as good and you'll strive for greatness. I enjoy making them and always going "that video I made was awesome, but let's make one even better." You should be your own rival and you may enjoy beating yourself until eventually you might be considered good. Don't worry what others think :)

It's your choice. I remember feeling like that at one point. Then I quiet editing for a while. Why, because I stressed over making stuff I was not comfortable with. Trying to use more crazy effects and stuff I did not understand. However it took me 7 years to realize that I should be editing and enjoying it. Making AMV's that I enjoy and hopefully others will too. If not, oh well. I edit AMV's to tell my side of the story, to tell my point of view on the song and the anime.

If you enjoy music, you enjoy anime, and you enjoy editing then don't worry about who is better than you. It is very difficult to make contest finals. However that should not matter, if you want to get better then you have people here that can help you. You can post in the op exchange and have people review your video and give you feedback. Ask if they could leave detailed information about your video. I've learned a lot from the editors here and still continue to do so. Also at the same time you'll be watching more AMV's and learning from them.

It just takes time and practice. Give it some time, and step back. Don't regret giving up.

I have only been around for less than 2 years, but in that not very long time period I have come across COUNTLESS people who said they were quitting AMVs for good. You know the funny part? none of them actually did. AMV editing is not about being better than others. Its about having fun (and just reaching a good level should be enough to satisfy yourself).
