ADHD Editing

Post by Sephirothskr » Tue Aug 26, 2014 7:35 pm

Anyone have this problem to where you just start a video, you don't finish it, you start another one, finish that one, start a new one, don't finish that one, and repeat? I dunno why but I can't focus on one video at a time usually unless I REALLY like the idea xD

I don't normally have that problem. The problem I have is I come up with so many ideas and I write down the songs and animes, but then can't remember 3 or 4 months from now why I wrote it down. I usually have about 10 ideas at a time but sadly only 1 gets made in that 2 or 3 month period.
No matter what, stay calm, stay cool and live life to the fullest.
Plus as Gene would say always go big in life.

I have not completed a video in over 2 years for this exact reason. It can get really frustrating...

Sometimes that's the way to work, but I've had mixed results from that approach. Earlier this year I completed a video, and the first 2-3 hours of working on it were arduous and frustrating to the point of wanting to quit. But I pushed through and after that, I started really enjoying the editing process and was in love with the video by the end. Sticking it out has its merits. Many of my videos have turned out that way, actually.

I've had plenty of videos go the opposite direction too, where I start out enthusiastic about what I'm going to do and by the end I just hate opening Vegas to work on it. It becomes a chore but I've committed myself to the idea so I have an obligation to myself to see it through.

And then there are those projects that I've started and stopped an hour later. I have plenty of those wasting away on my hard drive.

I find it really difficult to determine how my feelings on the editing process will go at the beginning. I try to give it more than an hour or two, especially if it's an idea I'm fairly excited about. A lot of times, getting started is the hardest part. I've wasted plenty of time on bad ideas using this method (many of which, embarrassingly, found their way to completed video status), but equally as many good videos (read: videos I like) have come out the other end.

You wanna talk about ADHD editing try completing 2 or more videos all at the same time,, not that I do that, but it could be dangerous.. they'd all end up being too similar to each other and none of them would have all of your love and attention.. they're like pets or kids. Raise one at a time or risk having them all grow up with some kind of mental issue.
