Ok, so basically lately I've been watching a heap of AMV videos by BestAmvsOfAllTime and theres just a couple that have inspired me to try something
so heres the question, does anyone know how to photoshop or whatever program you use another completely different character into your video..?

Are you talking about rotoscoping? There's different solutions. Exporting the frames and Photoshopping them is quite an oldschool way to do it.

What sort of ideas do you have?
It's probably best to start simple before moving on to stuff like that. Or maybe everyone just jumps straight into advanced effects now, I don't know.

Use the Pen tool (/paths/Bezier curves) in The GIMP or Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop or what have you. I made the mistake of using the polygonal lasso instead when I did my first video that required massive amounts of masking, because I didn't know any better, and it was an exercise in frustration (it did work, but it took loads more time than it should have).

i'd recommend using after effects for masking the character/s out of a scene and also for the compositing work it would take to realistically place the character/s into a different scene. otherwise i'd use the spot healing brush tool/clone stamp tool in photoshop for removing characters from a still.

Well I'm just starting after effects but I've been doing sony vegas and photoshop for a while so do we just mask characters out of the scene and put different characters in .....?
