The end of the Betatesting?
While some editors don't rely on betatesting in order to make their videos, other ones do. Lately is me or have been there a decrease in the betatesting?

I'm curious how you came to that conclusion... Are people just asking you less? It never seemed to be a public process for most people I know.

Re: The end of the Betatesting?
I never understood betatesting. After all I know enough about amvs to judge my own editing well.
Also I try to not share my vids before they are finished so I don't get the rewarding feeling and loose motivation.
If this trend really is going there I think it's good. Betatesting is for noobs.
Most editors I know have a close circle of editor-friends and they send betas to them. So I doubt it's dying.

If that is the case, then it's because people are more and more relating to this:

Re: The end of the Betatesting?
Unless I have put something in the title like: Why people aren't asking to me to betatest then the second question would be true, but that's not the situation here.BasharOfTheAges wrote:I'm curious how you came to that conclusion... Are people just asking you less?
Every year I like to do researchs considering facts like this one: betatest - betatesters. I combine every place that is dedicated to amvs (viewing or downloading them) like amvnews, akross, the org, youtube, etc. While in other years the amount of results was very similar (Too bad I don't have my old computer, the one that has data from the 2010-2013 info) like 7-8 videos were betatested, this year the tendecy is changing. In the past months (3 months to be exact) the tendecy has been 5 from 10 (Wouldn't be a surprise right now) and in this year 2014 tendecy has been: From january to march: 4 from 10, from april to june: 6 from 10, and from, from july to september: 5 from 10, and in the past 3 months, 5 from 10. Of course december hasn't ended yet, but that has been the tendecy right now.
If someone is interested about the inclusion and exclusion parameters I used to do this research, PM me. I reply late, but I read the messages

Oh, goodness... Honestly, look at my post once more. Sit there for 5 minutes, quietly, and deeply think to yourself whether or not what I posted was a meme, and/or whether it was a comment that's "out of place". Using your brain every now and then keeps it healthy.TritioAFB wrote:If you're going to comment in the thread, bring opinions, not just memes or comments out of place

If you have quantifiable research, then there's not really a need for "Is it just me or..." questions.

Re: The end of the Betatesting?
I'm sorry, but what? The last sentence I wrote (that you decided not to quote) was the basis for my question. It was sincere. The editors that I know that ask for feedback don't announce it. They go to specific people and talk to them one on one to ask about beta testing. They always have. AFAIK, this is how the majority of betatesting is done. So, unless they stopped asking you, you'd never know if fewer people were doing it - your sample set was never statistically significant in the first place.TritioAFB wrote:Unless I have put something in the title like: Why people aren't asking to me to betatest then the second question would be true, but that's not the situation here.BasharOfTheAges wrote:I'm curious how you came to that conclusion... The only people I've ever seen openly asking for betas are new and/or haven't figured out the social dynamics of the community. When they don't get feedback from anyone qualified to give it, they learn to stop asking everyone at once and start to ask people individually.

Re: The end of the Betatesting?
It's basically as Bashar states. I've always known beta testing to be that way. The only area outside of personal requests was in the IRC. People would ask from time to time there, but use of the IRC channel has basically stopped entirely so that only makes sense I wouldn't see requests there. I still beta my videos as I always have, with a few friends who's creative opinions I trust, and most of the time I rarely actually make changes but instead use it as a gauge for different viewpoints on the video. True, less people ask me, but I haven't exactly been 'around' much lately so that only makes sense, and with the lack of use of the IRC I see less requests there as well.
So really, as far as I can tell, the beta process is still going strong or could not be. Who knows?
