My mouth dropped open when I ripped a Blu-Ray and it was 200 GB. I was not expecting that.
Anyways the more I get use to this technique of selecting the clips before I'm in the program, than just having a general idea, the faster I am getting with it. At least as fast the clips will render for use.

Re: Editing is a slow process these days....
My least favorite part of a project is source work. Nowadays I rip the BDs, convert to lossless, and make my cuts in premier. The ripping process is slow, but not as slow as teh conversion process. Last 52 ep show conversion to 720p utvideo took about 4 days to complete. I kinda just left my editing box to do it's thing. Once done the editing is smooth, fast, and fun. But the initial process is slow and annoying. Often by the time the source is ready I no longer have the itch to work on the project and it goes back to the back burner until I do.
Either way, it's been this way since the beginning for me. Just the faster my PC gets the better quality footage I tend to work with...

I stopped making amvs before HD became the norm.
I can't imagine having multiple Blu-Rays ripped on my PC. I was barely used to having several DVDs ripped back in the day!

Pointless amounts of effort. If you take a fansubbers file which has already been nicely filtered and nowadays will be of high quality (insert bluray group here), and simply transcode the file so you are moving it from mkv to another container, no need to touch the encode since the codec is accepted (in ae cc anyway, dunno about others) ...it takes about 2 minutes for a 20 minute episode on my pc. Boom, perfect file to edit with.

He's often right. For example, take into account that whenever Sentai does a Blu-Ray authoring, they bungle it up hardcore. It's much, much easier and often will be higher quality to simply use a fansub that has been filtered and exported properly.AceD wrote:Pointless amounts of effort.
