You are not allowed to make any money from these videos since really none of the materials are yours. All that has been done is editing of anime episodes and one of your favorite songs, so why do you create and submit them?

Because there are reasons to do things that have nothing to do with making a profit?
To be less snarky about it, I enjoy making AMVs because I love music and I love anime, and combining the two results in awesome things. It's a creative process that I feel comfortable and satisfied with; unlike my other creative pursuits of the past (drawing, painting, etc), I am much happier with my output when it comes to editing, so it's more fun for me, and therefore (I feel) a more substantial use of my time.

Pretty much the same for me, except not animeCrackTheSky wrote:I enjoy making AMVs because I love music and I love anime, and combining the two results in awesome things. Because it is fun.
Is there any other reason that is needed?

i created amvs for fun at one point, there was one specific site i recall submitting to, unfortunately it's community is frowned upon. In fact, the competition of challenges were somewhat the worst concept ever for me to submit to.

I like editing - as strange as it sounds, I really like it. I do not play videogames.. I guess doing this stuff is my playing on the computer.

Re: Why do you create and submit AMVs?
I first started wanting to make things before I was into amvs. I really enjoyed viewing other people's work and the feelings you get when you really love something.like when you're crazy fanboy/girl for something. So I decided to make a living by making things people can enjoy. I got really involved in my multimedia class in high school and now I major in computer graphics/animation in college.
It was around my senior year in high school when I got into amvs. It was kinda easy because I was already using premiere in multimedia class and I had seen tons of anime. I just didn't really know too much about exporting abd plugins which is pretty important
.
So I started making amvs to try and get more skills with video editing, to try and get people to enjoy that fanboy feeling, and because it's fun
