Is this part of the creative process that eventually leads to making something or is this just being lazy?
I'm out here on the deck and listening to music like I'm about to be inspired by some idea that I'll go inside and work on, and then I'll go in and try just that and then I feel there's no flow to anything I'm doing and nothing ever really starts to take shape.
I suppose this has been going on for a while now. Even if I suddenly have a lot of free time for myself in about 4 months, I don't know if it's going to lead to much if I don't try a different approach. This one's never really worked yet it's become kind of a habit at this point.

Re: sitting around and thinking about the video you want to make
I have a similar hard time getting something started since 90% of the time, I lose momentum first trying to align and sync clips together and then I just replay the music staring at a nearly empty video track. But I try to get a 'seed' started where I absolutely know I want such and such video synced with such and such audio. Then I build off of that.

I am kind of the opposite. I am sitting on 2 amvs that are 95% done. I have no idea if they will work out so I never end up finishing them

Re: sitting around and thinking about the video you want to make
^i would finish for lulz.
I usually go some other way around compared to old days when i tried to grind my way more-> inspiring music, try to imagine what ideas i could play around with it , and try cuttting it up, as when i tried going for some more harsh scene selection and stuff it would fail usally tho.Its pretty hard method to finalize ... well it was in past at least. Otherwise it doesn't work unless i start liking music in the middle of cutting
. Tho that fails sometimes too lel. I feel more of an urge to edit those if i return to it later or something. Generally it seems pretty hard rto manage more than 2 vids a year so far P:

The problem is not finishing the videos. The problem is when you get stuck into an idea and you cant find the proper way to finish it.
The funny part is that my best videos (at least my case) are videos that I didnt plan them to be something I'll make an announcement. Instead of that, those are proyects I made 'for the fun'of making them
