I've been sitting here trying to get some work done, but my mind keeps drifting...

If the list that was e-mailed to the participants is also the playlist order, my video should have already shown by now - provided they started on time.

Yup. Mine should have been shown about 80 minutes ago, if the list was the play order and the showing started on time. Waiting for the results is gonna be agony... I so wish I could have been there.

You guys are gonna love this.

Friday night, they lost the ballots for the amv contest and there was NO voting. The Saturday contest showing (and last one might I add) starts in 40 minutes. I am home and going to go to sleep since I stayed up til 4 Am thanks to Rich Lather and his giant bad animation party for 300 people :D so I won't know what they will do for voting.

Some brief things

-Audio this time was superb
BUT!!!
It was ruined by how they put the darn open mike night next door at the same time as the amv contest and the walls of course are the moving kind. In other words, half the time you heard some horrible screeching while the videos played. This began to get annoying half way through the AMV contest and ruined ( I think) the effect of some people's videos because the audience laughed at the howling a couple times..meaning they were missing the video.

The AMV panel was great but suffered the same problem sinec the video rooms were next to it and loud. And the video rooms messed up each other AND had the awful singers floating through there as well. If you look at the block of the layout on their site you will see why this was an issue.

Hallways were big this time, maybe that is why it seemed not as many people were there.

Anyway, if they don't find the ballots by 8 AM, who knows what they will do. I'll find out when the rest of you fols do since I am not going back the rest of the weekend.

I'll post more on the amvs later, but I have to say Earthcurrent's Dog of Flanders video choked me up and Cosmic studios was great Swing. Rich Lather had some good old school to show. Met Uncle Milo, Rich Lather...and some guy ^_^ Speak up random guy, you stood and talked with us for 15 minutes and I forgot your forum name.

quoting Misty: "You guys are gonna love this."

Guess when they found the ballots?

at 2pm on Saturday, 3 hrs after the 2nd and final showing ended.

I talked to the guy in charge of the contest multiple times and it seems as though he is just going to do a staff vote.

I dont know if he'll anounce the winners at the con or not. I got back home an hour ago so there's no way for me TO know. :P

They're just paper ballots, right? Why didn't they just print new ones?

Oh well...if they're just going to put it to a staff/judge vote, that's fine. I'm anxious to hear the results, though.

I was wondering about that as well... surely a few of us that got the email with the ballots were there, so even if they hadn't brough the file with them, they should have been able to get ahold of it and, if there were no computers with printers handy, run to the nearest Kinko's and make more copies.

I'm anxious about the results as well, this being the first time I've (successfully) entered and competed in a real con AMV contest... Don't know quite what to think about just the staff voting, but if that's all that could be done, oh well.

Look at if from a staffer's position.

If I remember correctly the room they showed it in could hold 300+ people. (i might be wrong. memory hazy) So with two showings you would need atleast 600 ballots.

At sugoicon last year we spent $80 gettings the ballots copied and we had i think 500 made. (again.. my memory)

So, when you have to pay the bill, would you:

a) just go make more copies and pay more money
or
b) look from the ones that you misplaced as hard as you damn well can.

I dont blame them on their choice to not make more.

grayplague - You should have stuck around the amv panel cause at the end, Uncle Milo gave me and RichLather a private screening of his Fushigi Yuugi video. Well, not exactly  But after we got kicked out of the room for the next panel we shot the breeze for about 15 minutes ^_^

I am still in the process of finishing my con report. I wasn't as nice as you in my journal but I am calling it like I see it. Animation hell was about the only thing I truly enjoyed though I only went Friday. I saw no reason for the other 2 days...not that I thought it was bad...I just didn't think it was as good as they could have made it for the location and resources. Just my opinion.

I probably would have done what they did for the first showing- and invited people to come back again for the second showing and searched like hell for the ballots before the second showing. But, I probably would have bitten the bullet and made more copies if the original ones hadn't been found by an hour or so before the second showing. 600 copies at Kinko shouldn't be much more than $50 if I'm remembering rates right. Some cons even have their own copy machine, which would have been even less per copy.I know when I was tech staff at AXNY, we probably ended up having to buy twice that in connectors that hadn't been thought necessary initially. I think I would have gone with spending the extra money and having people be able to vote instead of just not having voting at all- but I wasn't there, and I don't know exactly what happened- maybe they asked, and the con chairs/heads told them not to make more copies. I'm glad that, by the sound of it, the contest went well otherwise. It's just a bit of a disappointment as one of the entrants that the attendees didn't apparently get to vote on the awards.
