Of the things I have to complain about, the ballot issue isn't even one of them. I don't really care if I win a contest anyway since I just want my video shown to an audience. (it should look/sound good for fairness and they delivered on that part)
The thing about it that they should be ashamed of though is letting down the people who like that sort of thing. If they wanted to do screenings, fine. But if they say it's a contest they should announce awards Saturday night with everything else. For some amv creators, that is an exciting part of the con they attend. So even if it was a con staff vote after all, they should do it Saturday night...and they might have but I wasn't there.
You do have to admit....it was pretty amatuer to 'lose' hundreds of ballots.

I'll admit to being a little bewildered about how they managed to lose a box full of hundreds of pieces of paper. Something like that's not light, so it's not like you'd be toting it around, only to accidentally set it down and forget about it.
But, mistakes happen. At least they went through the effort looking for them.
I'm a little more bothered by the conditions of the screening itself if it was as noisy as Misty described. My video has a lot of quiet moments - in fact, it's for that reason I wonder if it's all that suitable for a convention setting - and without those quiet moments, a lot of dramatic effect is lost. I had been contemplating whether or not to send the same video to Ushicon, waiting around to see the results from Ohayocon (if it had won anything, I didn't really want to turn around and send it off to the very next convention), but once I heard how poor the conditions of the screening were, I decided to submit to Ushicon regardless. I mailed the CD yesterday.
I'm just happy to have the video shown in front of an interested audience, especially since it was brand spankin' new and have received little feedback on it yet, so whether or not the contest worked out, I won't complain. However, if they are going to do some sort of judging, it would be nice if they wouldn't leave everyone hanging for a long time.

I'm really not all too concerned about knowing about who won- I'm also just happy to finally get to show my work to an interested audience. I'm easily more upset about not being able to make it to the con myself to see the reaction to the video and to finally meet some of the other editors than I am about the problems with the ballots. I'm sure the staff running the contest did the best they could. I suppose I can't be too critical, given some of the problems and delays we had with the AXNY AMV contest.
Does anyone know if there was going to be a compilation of the videos that were entered/shown at the con? There were a couple on the list that weren't available for download that I'd love to see...

I walked into the amv panel right as DeMoss was finishing up showing his Episode 1 trailer... yet again. I met up with DJ Fritz right then and we just shot the breeze for like 15 min.
Damn.... could have shot the breeze as a bigger group ^_^

I ran into DJ Fritz briefly on Friday; had I realized fully who it was I was talking to, I'd've been more praiseful of "Beboppin'" at the time. And of course also saw Misty, Nullspace (Null-something , I know that), Brad DeMoss, Unca Milo...
Interesting to hear about the ballot situation. I hope the results are not terribly skewed as a result. I arrived late for the Friday screening due to the fan parody panel I was on; missed the whole trailer category, and unfortunately failed to catch Earthcurrent's "Ave Maria" video. I've seen it before, but wanted to see reaction. I did arrive just in time to see mine and Misty's, and stayed the rest of the way through. "Happy Happy Joy Joy" was a scream...the old guy used for Stinky Wizzleteats' lines was perfect. I'll post more detailed commentary tomorrow after a good night's sleep, and with a ballot in front of me for guidance.
Glad you stayed through Hell, Misty. We had a good core crowd of a couple hundred that stayed the whole time. I didn't know if the playlist I'd worked out was worthy of the attention, but adding in the GI Joe safety clips may have played a part. Now I know.
...and knowing is half the battle.

According to Fritz, who stayed til the bitter end of it all, my "foreseen companions" apparently won best action.
I shall no longer rant about the ballot issue :P

They probably shifted uncomfortably, unable to fathom the depth of emotion they should have felt.RichLather wrote:unfortunately failed to catch Earthcurrent's "Ave Maria" video. I've seen it before, but wanted to see reaction.
Did anyone manage to catch it though?
I'm wondering how it turned out on the bigscreen.

I just noticed that my video would have played right after "Ave Maria", and right before Rich's. Bookended by two great videos...
Not sure if that's good or bad.
