THE NEW ANIME!!!!!!!!!

Post by OmniStrata » Wed Apr 16, 2003 12:40 am

This stuff is so new I'm seein' stars...

Air Master
Scrapped Princess
Stellvia
DNAngel

Any thoughts on ANY of these things...

I've seen their first eps, maybe 2nd eps...

Air Master - Weird lookin' show about street fighting... Big woman who's like 7ft. tall flashin' her undies while spinning through the air kickin' the crap outta people... Opening intro is good indication of show's theme, but ending animation is downright WRONG AND HILARIOUS...

Scrapped Princess - cute/sexy character design (big eyes small mouth classic) and it's got that epic sword/sorcery look... The princess is sexy too...

DNAngel - newly made based off the manga. seems hero uses same Seiyuu as Seina from Tenchi GXP

Stellvia - looks like shit to me... NASTY character design (seems to be by the Love Hina dude [TV, NOT manga...]) Has a Battle Athletes feel, only not nearly as "well planned".... Hmmm :/

Any of you people seen these and can give me any impressions?

[NO major spoilers pleeeeeeeaaaaase...]

Air Master -- Not overly impressed by this
Scrapped Princess -- I actually like this better than most fantasy animes, I look forward to seeing a bit more.
Stellvia -- The plot hasn't really gone anywhere yet. I am hoping that there will be a bit more substantive "plot" appearing soon, else I might grow weary of this.
DNAngel -- reminds me of Kamikaze Kaito Jeane only with a male lead. This might go somewhere.

Personally, I'm more interested in Last Exile. GONZO is really showing their skill at integrating 2d and 3d animation in this one. And the world seems quite interesting in that napoleonic/steampunk/airships sort of way.

Air Master - I already posted my impressions of it. And actually Maki's supposed to be a teenager and only 16 years old. Yeah, the character designs are rather strange in this anime I agree. It's too early to really say if it's good or not. But it's difference from other fighting animes is intriguing and it looks like it may have more plot than the rest. (What is up with that guy with the number 15 tatooed on his head anyway?) At any rate, time will tell.

Scrapped Princess - I love it, but I tend to enjoy epic Anime. It has it's funny moments and tender moments too. And that's just considering from the first episode. The characters are likable and there's a great cast. I love miki shinichirou as Shannon (The Sword-swinging Older Brother). orikasa fumiko is also great as Pacifica (The Scrapped Princess). She's been having a lot of great roles recently like Chise from Saishuuheiki kanojo, Meia from Vandread, and Victoria Celes from Hellsing.

DNAngel - I like it a lot. Dark is gorgeous (dark purple hair, woo!) and the romantic tension is well portrayed. It's pretty funny at times too, although the main plot about having to steal rare items has been done to death. *cough*Lupin*cough*

Stellvia - I actually thought it was well-animated although the character designs aren't anything to scream about so far it's true. It smoothly integrates CG rendered vehicles and the spacescapes. So far it feels a lot like the Anime version of the movie "Space Camp" So was Pilot Candidate in a way, but thus far Stellvia doesn't seem to have space invaders or some kind of exciting battle/conflict to really make it engrossing. It does have a believable futuristic setting which I found neat since Anime is supposed to be unbelievable. I also give it bonus points for having the most kawaii anime puppy scene in episode 2. :) I'm waiting for some unexpected action to occur, until then it's an okay series but it won't grab your attention like some other newer titles. It also has the potential to be the anime form of Ender's Game, one of the best sci-fi novels I've read so I'm still basically reserving judgement until I've seen more.

Ok, here are my thoughts:

Air Master: I think I may have discoverd some sort of fetish for "strong & tall" girls, so I can't wait to see more of it! ~_^ (Maki sorta looks like Baki's big sister though, lol)

Scrapped Princess: It's right here in my HD, but I haven't seen it yet... :-/

D.N.Angel: This is cheesy as hell. Sure, it has it's funny momments and has some nice animation here and there but the whole "Stealing" and "DBZ-angel" thing is just too cheesy for me to bare.

Last Exile: It's a freaking dream come true! It resembles Skies of Arcadia far too much to be a coincidence! It definately has potential to become my new "favorite" anime. :-)

Well hopefully it won't have as many random encounters as Skies :). I liked the game to a degree, but it definitely lost quite a few points for it's random encounters every 5 steps...oops that was all off-topic :).
