If anyone in the theater I saw it in was offended, they were too busy laughing to be able to tell.
I would imagine only the truly hard-core religious, well, for lack of a better word- nuts, would complain about the movie's religious connotations. It's basically about God teaching Carrey's character a lesson, and that people should spend more time working to improve their situation themselves instead of just hoping everything would be miraculously fixed for them. It didn't take (that I recall) any pot-shots at any particular religions, and I don't even really recall whether there was anything that would really have indicated that the God being portrayed was supposed to be the Christian God as opposed to not.
It was a good, fun (hillarious at times) movie.
