Acen was "only" 9 hours of entries.... and A-Kon is a larger and older con that Acen (I think)
at least its not AWa's which had 300+ entries last year
Only 9 hours?!? 9 hours of madness that ended at 4 A.M. Given...you did tell me to sleep around 1 A.M. since I had Iron Chef, so I can only blame myself and the "random" algorithm that chose to show my videos dead last
.
Oh and A-kon is WAY older than ACen. Probably more than twice as old since they're on 14 and I don't think ACen has even reached 7.

I really wish they would do some changes to Akon seeing it is right smack in the middle of everything. Dallas is a great location for a con I think gives people from the East and West coast less travel time. DFW is a great airport. We have tons of hotels and cool things to do in dallas. Plus I am in the top 10 of AMV makes in the area, sadly there are only 8 editors. :( :o Burn on myself there.

I agree. Actually IIRC A-kon is the 3rd biggest con in the United States (next to AX and Otakon) and it's unfortunate that such status doesn't extrapolate into their actual events and coordination (or lack thereof).
3rd biggest, but one of the worst run in terms of AMVs (i.e. no digital submission, not replying to e-mails, etc.)...basically no respect for creators.
Oh well there's always Animefest and Ushicon which run their contests very well.

Speaking of Ushicon they need a contest PERIOD. THey only do that showcase which is well done. Animefest is the best of all Texas cons at this point WOW. I can't wait until September for AWA.

I know some of the people who run Ushicon and I don't think they're going to go to a contest within the next few years. They like having just an expo for both the AMV contest *and* the costume contest. They like it since people won't be in a competitive spirit. Given, I think most of us are mature enough for a contest, but it is their con and they like that "feel"...whatever that means.
As for AnimeFest...surprisingly it probably is the best Texas con despite it's size. I think they do a great job AMV-wise as was demonstrated last year.

I hope Anime Fest is pretty cool, I plan on coming this year. Hope I can hang out with more of you, longer.

Animefest will grow and grow I hope. Someday will be the biggest and best in Texas. I really liked everything about it last year.

Well that's how they grow. The better they do, more people like us say good things and spread it...and in time it'll be a decently sized con. I'd like to think that doing good will have it's rewards and hopefully AnimeFest will reap them soon. Even if they don't though...it's fun and well-run regardless.

I think it needs to be all about the AMVs to much costplay is bad. The only thing I like at a con is the dealer room and the AMV showcases and contests.
And can't forget hentiafest hentiafest hentiafest.

I think balance is mucho important... AMV not outweighing Cosplay and vice versa.
