The most recent anime I've seen is Chobits and I liked it, but I guess 1 isn't enough to form an Opinion on.
Why do you hurt me like this? Is it because I dared to love, dared to dream? I loved you and you left on me just because of one simple word. Can't you see? You ruined your life and mine. Don't come back. You dared to leave and I dared to stay.

new anime does suck

Post by deus751 » Sat Jun 07, 2003 8:39 pm

man the new stuff comeing to the states are just for quick cash. ADV used to only pick good anime but now they are just like the rest of them. Most animes now are just flashy animation and no story or anything but perverted comedy. Somewere the love for a good story got lost. Like robotech. old bad animation but good story. now people look upon that as crap. As crapy as Strawberry eggs? man a good story is what anime needs now. over used plots are also becoming a fashion. all anime has now are big robots. 14yo chicks with abnormaly big breasts. or stupid violence. like ninja ressuection. What happened to shows like area 88? or the ultimate anime Evangelion? a great show that challenged peoples opinion and the world that we live in. Anyone play Xenogears?

Staring at the night sky above the cliffs,
The stars like tears above the flames.

As the fires fall and burn the grass,
I stare at my home, watching, helpless.
A song of sorrow flows through the air,
Between the sounds of hail and thunder.

Staring at the ground beneath my feet,
The valleys like sullen creases on a tired face.

Between the sadness my house burns,
Like a friend watching from far off.
The sky and the ground swallow up
All history and time not able to look back.

even anime that has a good feel to it are gone. cowboy bebop was fun. no pressing plot or untold secrets but good. and the creativity has just gone out the window. the lastest one that i saw that was creative besides big ass robots with the plot of fate and saving the world was His and her circumstances. just a cool relaxed fun anime that actually had realistic stuff in it. Another good new one was Read or Die, or the occult classic Now and Then Here and There. many of these new animes lack depth or just any fun at all. anime has always been for good storys, cool battles, comedy, things that can't go on in a movie or just on any other medium, and cool animations. but people have lost touch with it. anime used to be so diverse that it really couldn't be a genre. but now because of these new anime that genre has been labled as: Anime: Big robots, people brought together to save the world (sometimes the universe), 12-19 yo girls, and really wimpy guys that can't even look at a girl but must watch them so that there can be some type of love in the story even though it takes about 26 eps to form. that is all my bitching today so tah tah!

I like Macross/Robotech...quite a bit actually. I do agree with you that most people dismiss it since they can't stand the 80's animation. I can understand that since if you started with 90's animation..it's hard to go to something that looks owrse.

Yes. My...probably 4th favorite RPG of all time (oh and NO the ones above are NOT Final Fantasies or Square games for that matter...since I think you'll askt that next :)). Xenogears had one of the greatest stories I've ever witnessed...not only among games, but even anime and movies.

Only reason it's not my favorite game is that..the gameplay was meh (and that's an understatement).

Occult classic eh? I think you meant cult classic...you should go look up what a occult is...since it's kind of funny you said that :).

My big gripe with most new anime is that it seems to ALWAYS involve the following:

1. A mysterious power.
2. Some sort of device or vehicle that utilizes the power, and that will save the world.
3. A reluctant hero, who is forced into piloting the vehicle or using the device.
4. Either a quest to conquer evil using the mysterious power, or a bunch of skirmish style battles with a vaguely defined enemy.
5. Philosophical rambling that's either pointless or obvious.
6. Everything has a weird, pseudo-midieval look to it.
7. The main character, who is usually male, always pisses off the female love interest, or she gets upset, and there's a stare and then he kind of whispers her name.
8. A general, muted tone to the series.
9. The main character has some sort of internal conflict, for no good reason.
10. No lighthearted aspects, and nothing to get behind the characters about. I don't feel for the characters, because what do they do? Is anything REALLY bad going on? Will one of the important characters die, or nearly do so? Probably.

I think that the Japanese studios are trying to advance anime as a solid medium on a par with movies and TV - when it has already gone as high as it will go, in terms of mass appeal. In avoiding cliche, they have ironically made their newer offerings the same as everyone else's.
I'm out...

That's the only way it can exist. Considering Robotech was actually the brainchild of Carl Macek who, in order to make it long enough to air on US TV, took Macross and tweaked it so he could then attach 'Super Dimensional Cavalry Southern Cross' and 'Genesis Climber Mospeda' afterwards.
