OK you are all whacked out and getting the wrong ideas. You're believing rumors and falsehoods and CRAP you hear on the internet. How many times must I tell you all not to believe anything you read on the internet?

Let me begin by saying that you'd be hard pressed to find a bigger Tenchi otaku than me. They're out there, I know most of them. Anyway...

Here's a list of falsehoods listed in this thread, and the actual facts that SHOULD HAVE BEEN LISTED.

FIRST: PrincessMilli_SMS - You are confusing three or more different Tenchi continuities. Let me explain.
Here are the MAIN continuities. Continuities not listed here are: Naoko OVA (Mihoshi Special, Tenchi Movie 2, Radio Drama, novels), Pretty Sammy, and Manga.

1. Kajishima OVA - Titled "Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki", or just simply "Tenchi Muyo!". This is the original and "Canon" Tenchi continuity. It had two parts, one released in 1992, then another in 1995. The first part involved the introduction of characters and the battle against Kagato. The second part involved further character development and the battle against Dr. Clay, as well as the introduction of Lady Tokimi and the existance of the "Choushin" (3 Goddesses). The third part of this series is going to start production late this year and be released next year. For the time beging, another OVA continuity show is being televised in Japan called "Tenchi Muyo! GXP", which is not about Tenchi, but rather one of his classmates, Seina. I'll talk more about GXP later. Anyway, in this series, Sasami and Tsunami are connected, Washu is 20,000 years old, Ryoko was created by Washu, Ryo-Ohki was created by Washu, Mihoshi's grandfather is the GP marshall, Mihoshi has no partner, etc... all that good stuff. There are also prequel novels to this series written by Masaki Kajishima called "Shin Tenchi Muyo", meaning "True Tenchi Muyo".

2. Tenchi Muyo! TV - Called "Tenchi Universe" in America. This series has no connection to the OVA at all. It is a stand-alone series, which reintroduces the characters in a new way. It goes longer than the OVA, but basically changes around the plot of OVA 1 to make a new show. THe end of the show still features a battle against Kagato. However, rather than being an old student of Washu's with a mysterious past, he is a Juraian who claims to be Yosho, and has an old grudge against Yosho. After the conclusion of the TV series comes the first Movie (Tenchi Muyo in Love) and the third movie (Tenchi Muyo in Love 2, or Tenchi Forever)

3. Shin Tenchi Muyo - Meaning "New Tenchi Muyo", called "Tenchi in Tokyo" here in America. This series is, once again, a seperate and individual story continuity. In this continuity, the characters are not introduced in the beginning, but rather later on, and again in a different fashion. In this show, Tenchi leaves for Tokyo to go to high school. There he meets Sakuya, and eventually falls in love with her. Tradgedy follows as Sakuya's true nature is revealed at the end of the show. This show is the least popular Tenchi series, and there are not other spinoffs or features about it.

So yeah. Specify a continuity. Depending on the continuity, my answer for who Tenchi should be together with varies a lot.

OK NEXT...

Petro: You wrote that Tenchi is Seina's mentor. This is not true. Though Seina looked up to his Sempai, he is not his mentor parsay. He does have bad luck though, and that's how he gets drafted into the GP oddly enough. Amane believes that, because Seina survived the shockwave from her ship crashing, he must have been trained by Tenchi. She also falsely believes that his scraped and bruises were from being in the middle of Ryoko and Ayeka's fights.

They do NOT have Tenchi's daughter in the show, where the hell did you get that crazy idea? Tenchi Muyo GXP does not happen long after the OVA, so unless Tenchi was screwing one of the girls in the OVA and they never mentioned it, this is pretty much impossible. Furthermore, I've seen a lot of GXP... Trust me. There is no daughter of Tenchi.

You are also confusing continuities. You've confused the Naoko OVA with the Kajishima OVA.

I imagine this "daughter" you speak of is Kiriko Masaki. She is not related to Tenchi. If she is, its distant. She is a GP officer stationed on Earth, kind of like Mihoshi. However, unlike Mihoshi, her stationing was a big more secretive.

MOVING ALONG:

I'd like to say that I think the most obvious choice is Ryoko for the OVA continuity, but there are plenty of points for Ayeka, Mihoshi, even Sasami.. hell, even Washu. It's a tough call. Also, I'd like to point out that Tenchi Muyo isn't so much about who Tenchi will pick, but rather about their family unit so to speak. They are all like a family, this is especially apparent in Tenchi Muyo GXP episode 17 where Seina visits Earth and stays for a day at Tenchi's house. Everyone seems to get along just fine, and Tenchi show no favoritism to any of the girls.

There are many rumors out there about Tenchi picking a girl in OVA 3. This is not true. Although the (badly) translated Kajishima interview stated that Tenchi would pick in OVA 3, it was denied at the GXP panel at Anime Expo. Just deal with it, people. If Tenchi picked a girl, the series would take a big turn for the worse. I hope he waits a nice long time before picking, because I could definitely go for an OVA 4 or OVA 5, which would be hard to make without the "exotic girlfriend/harem" theme they have going.

Anyway. If anyone has Tenchi questions, you can direct them to me and get a 100% true response 99.9% of the time. (Only because I don't claim to know everything about the show. Just damn near everything.)

Hmm, let me throw in a different train of thought for you all. Personally I haven't delved into Tenchi as much as some (no names mentioned ^_^), but I like to think I have a decent grasp of what’s going on.

Tenchi marring is just a bad idea unless its in a fan fiction (and that can still be bad), but speaking of fanfics its a interesting medium to develop different viewpoints of the characters. One writer, Arca Jeth (hope I spelled that right) dramatically changed my view of Ayeka. I don't think she is as bad as everyone makes her out to be. I sort of see her mean bitchy attitude as a sort of protective shell, a barrier against the outside world. She was brought up so prim and proper that she just can’t bring herself to open up and be a normal person. Think about it you can get a lot of mental conditioning from your parents in seven thousand years (or however old she is in the OVAs)

Another interesting thing about Ayeka is as soon as Tenchi is removed from the equation she seems to get along with Ryoko fairly well. Granted I haven't as much of Tenchi as I'd like, but from what I have it seems to hold true.

The webmaster of the Tenchi Muyo FanFiction Archive (to lazy to find out is name) actually put up a bit of a challenge for anyone with writers block, write a fanfic where Ayeka, and only Ayeka, marries Tenchi, because he had not seen one fanfic up until then in witch this happened (and I've only seen one in witch this happens, and its not very good)

Another interesting thing he mentioned was about a Tenchi chat-room RPG he was playing in. No one wanted to be Ayeka, because no one likes her so he volunteered. Naturally the way things turned out Ryoko married Tenchi. So he made Ayeka go on into the kitchen, grab the biggest knife she could find and stab it through her broken heart. I don't remember the reasoning behind it, but I think it was just to shock everyone there into not being quite so harsh on the poor princess.

Well this is just my opinion on the matter. Even if I haven't watched much of it I still love Tenchi, so I had to add my two cents.

I haven't delved into Tenchi at all and don't intend to at this point, if ever.

Go ahead and call me a dragass if you wish.
I'm out...

heh. I've only seen through episode 5. I said it seemed like she might be his daughter, not that she was. I was under the impression that this series was happening later in the timeline than you describe it happening. gomen ^^; Also, since the space pirate Ryoko was a different person, I was assuming that she had some sort of relationship to the Ryoko we all know and love.

I am glad that they're FINALLY continuing the storyline of the original OVA, as Tenchi was the coolest in that one (instant self healing! Genetically aquired personal force fields! Swords remeniscent of blades weaved from the One Power in WoT (though, yes, yes, I know WoT came later) W00T! I wanna see more of Tsunami too - she kicked serious A55x0r

Yup.
That's cool.
And yeah... Ryoko Balta is not connected to Ryoko Hakubi in any way except by name. However, it is believed that Ryoko Hakubi is her namesake. She was named Ryoko after the famous space pirate by her parents who were also pirates. However, unlike Hakubi, Balta does not like the pirate life. She prefers more of a gentle stress-free environment. She is friendly, enjoys arranging flowers, and loves the Japanese tea ceremony. :P

HA! I knew that Sasami was always more evil then she was letting on!

Errm, I mean I read your fanfics Garylisk and they we're quite enjoyable. Makes me think of my own unfinished Tenchi fics that are still sitting in my old Cumulis.

I think I should finish the second one I started at least. It could have been really good, assuming it makes the translation from my head to my word processor in one piece.
