Leave it to the Christians to fight against each other because of a different paragraph here or there in the same book! What a bunch of fucking morons.
Every Christian I have met who recently converted in high school or college did so because they had to convince themselves their lives weren't pathetic, either due to abusive family members, suicidal tendencies, or physical disabilities/allergies/diseases. When's the last time someone converted to atheism because they needed to build their self-esteem?
It's rather ridiculous seeing a bunch of suicidal, bisexual, cowardly sons of bitches converting to Christianity to solve their personal problems, and then feeling they have the moral superiority to convert people like me, who have found a way to live and sin far less in a week than those fuckers will ever pull off in a single day.
That argument would be sound, if a major atheist cult ever committed genocide, all due to their beliefs of moral superiority. Also, atheists don't go around and force heathens to convert, while having major flaws which led to their conversion in the first place.Atheists need to be a bit more aware of how they think and speak, because their silly superiority complexes are often just as hypocritical as those organized faiths that they tend to criticize.

I agree again here. Most of the people I have met who don't believe in God (I have many friends who do not), seem to think they have come to a superior conclusion when they talk about their reasoning as to why there is no god, or this religion is wrong etc. etc. When I listen to their reasoning, I always play Devil's Advocate with this one train of thought. Try it yourselves. It's a series of scientific solutions to creation, until you reach the end, there is your religious answer.kthulhu wrote:I think EC's point about atheism is that many people (poseurs, mainly) who claim to be atheist do it out of a sense of smugness, instead of logic. "Look at me, I don't believe in god! I'm so intellectually above it all!" seems to be a common attitude of many supposed "atheists".
Why is there life on Earth?
A series of events leading to the evolution of organisms was preceded by the first tectonic movements on the molten ball that was to become earth.
How did the Earth get here?
When the floating solar mass that is our sun was in the baby stages of it's new life, a spinning disk of interstellar gas and material formed around it, known as an accretion disk. These materials collided together, eventually forming the proto planets that became our solar system.
How did this material get here?
The general belief is that an interstellar event known as the Big Bang occured. An undetermined amount of pent up energy and materials were pent up in a small space known as a Cosmic Egg. For one reason or another it exploded outward. This enormous explosion of energy sent materials hurling throughout space and eventually began to swirl in eddies which created galaxies, and sub-eddies within these galaxies that created stars.
Why did the Cosmic Egg explode?
Indeed, a good question. Why did it explode?
Who put the Cosmic Egg there?
Well, you tell me. And how could something exist before this Cosmic Egg?
Try and explain that with science. Even the Big Crunch theory needs to start somewhere.
So you see, if you even try to think to times before the Big Bang, you will find it hard to find a logical solution for the start of this Universe. It is beyond our comprehension most of the time, but there is one answer that we can think of that doesn't use science. God. There I said it. God. Religion is the one thing that can explain our existence. I also find that some people fail to see the symbolism in the Bible. I think it is too literal to take the Seven days creation as it is. The only reason it was written that way was to put it into the understanding of the people of that timeframe. Try to explain evolution of planets and intersteallar physics to the people of 2000 BC, and on. They would not comprehend, so the Bible was written in a format to suit the times. Indeed, now the Bible must be interpreted, more for it's inner meaning than it's literal texts. The Bible is a book, and all books have some fiction (Unless it's an encyclopedia, dictionary etc). So while the Bible is never re-written, it experiences it's evolution through us as a populace. And as for the earlier comment about how everyone who joins Chrisianity must have emotional problems, well I pity you. You must've got a cold heart to only see the emotionless view that is wrong with today's society. I think maybe you should research into these things more before making assumptions based on a single age group or demographic. While it is true that people in their College years turn to religion for support, they do so because they are cut off from home, and may be in need of a new community, as they have less access to their families. People entering and leaving college have also left their teenage years behind, and I find that teenagers are blessed with an ego-centric, arrogant view of the world. They think they know better, that there is always an exception to the rule, that they can come up with an easier way to do things. I should know, I'm a teenager too. But once they leave for college and get out into society, they grow up (hopefully) and become productive people who can realize their shortcomings and adopt a better view of the world.
Alright I might be ranting now, and it is late, so I'll sign off.
That was much more than my two cents, it was more like a quarter. I hope it sits well with you that I presented my points and facts, and since I presented my points in a civilized fashion, I would appreciate to not be flamed.
Peace.
