So my computer crashes when I'm 99% done with one of my videos. I didn't have time to back anything up, so I reinstalled Windows without re-formating the drive so that all my files would still be there.
Windows running again, and I run Premiere 6.0 again. I go to open my project, but it claims that my footage ( avi files I had exported using HuffyYUV from their original AVS files ) is either offline or not found. Of course all my files are still there- but Premiere 6 refuses to recognize them ( and regular media players won't play them anymore either- it says no decompresser can be found ). I reinstall Premiere 6.0 several times to no avail- the same error. Curiously, OLDER AVI files that were only exported using Cinepak will load back onto the timeline- but all my major footage, exported using HuffyYUV will not- I get that error.
Desperate, I borrow a copy of 6.5 off of a friend to see if upgrading to a newer version may do anything- unfortunately, no. The same errors. Older AVI files that were exported with Cinepak once upon a time will load to the timeline, but I am still getting this error when it regards HuffyYUV-exported files:
"the media type of the file selected is different from that of the missing or offline file".
I'm assuming the problem lies of course in the footage and not in Premiere- Is there anything that can be done to fix this- or am I just going to have scrap all this footage from my video and start all over again?
Any suggestions would be soooooo greatly appreciated.
Help!! with Adobe Premiere 6.0/6.5 PLEASE!!!!!

Of course it would. You need a codec to play huffyuv-encoded files, just like you do with XviD, DivX and so forth. Coincidentally, this is included in amvapp.
This would also explain why it claimed to lack a decompressor. You simply no longer had the codec installed after the Windows reinstall.

...actually it would have been a conflict with the registry. It gets replaced whenever your reinstall like that and all of your programs should be reinstalled so you don't get any other similar errors.hawrbarmsn wrote:Of course it would. Well, yes, since the registry was replaced, Windows had no record of having the codec installed, and thus it would appear as if it wasn't, even if the files were there.
So yeah, you're right. Please forgive my simplification.
