Prefer Japanese or English Dub?

I guess I do things bass-ackwards. o.O

I watch an anime in Japanese first to know the original translation (what the scenes are supposed to mean/what the characters are supposed to be talking about), and then I watch the dubbed to see how much they changed it (or completely rewrote it in some cases - hello, Sorcerer Hunters' dub cast, thanks for the yaoi ;p ). It's funner that way. ^_^;;

Hey miryoku-teki, just for future reference, before you post a new topic, look to see if one like it is still up (and relatively new, preferably) so it won't get too confusing as to which topic to post on. Just a coutesy-type thing to other members.I wouldn't have siad anything but there's already the exact same topic up right now that isn't that old. You're pretty new so I'm not going to gripe you out or anything, but just so you know.

I think it's more enjoyable to watch any animation in your native language. If I spoke Japanese fluently (or at all..) I might prefer to watch an anime in Japanese, but since I don't know the language, I prefer English dubs the first time through an anime.

Japanese *for me* is usually > than English Dub...but as I've said before, the main gripe I have with dubs are the English ones, I don't have a problem with other languages...as long as it's not English...but that's just me.

Usually I get the subs first before the dubs, which is probably better. There are a few cases where dubs are better than subs though. It depends on what you listen to first. If you watch a dub before a sub, it's likely you might like the dub more. That's how I feel with Inuyasha. But it could be the opposite too, like how I felt with Bakuretsu Hunters.

As long as you watch both versions. I feel sorry for the people who never get to hear Gateau call Marron a 'prick tease.' ^_^;; One thing for dubs - if they do it right, the humor can go through the roof. Reminds me of 'Saiyuki' and the old 'see if the carpet matches the drapes' line. Dubbers... ^.~

and to stay on topic, i would prefer the Ari-bass-ackwards method, knowing what they actually said, then watching it leisurely in english for full enjoyment and ridicule... but i usually end up doing it the other way, so 80% of the time i watch an anime in english with the dubbing no matter how bad, but i PREFER original's language's superiority over the foreign dubbing

i used to think eva's dub was good... but watching it again, i see where it lacks, but maybe that's just the first few episodes, cause i know with EoE, the dubbing is damned decent.

Heh the only thing I've ever watched in Spanish was the Bebop movie...that left me rather entertained...but anyways, if I was given the choice, I'd rather watch an anime in just about any language but English...though most of the time I just watch it in Japanese...

Well, I can say in spanish, it's pretty farkin' good, but I still like dubs. Dubs are funnier about 100% of the time :p

Also, I cry more during dubbed anime than subbed with proper emotional striking. With subs, I can usually close mah eyes and then I don't know what's being said ^_^

The whole point of dubbing something is into a language you can understand. I wouldn't watch in anime in italian and damn sure not in spanish. I would rather watch it straight japanese than in any other language with subtitles. I have seen some horrors. Ranma dubbed in spanish and lum in Italian.
