To many members...

Post by Desdraftlit » Sat May 08, 2004 9:24 pm

We have lots of members (to many)... I think to be a member, you must create your own AMV and enter it in. Then you should rate or leave a comment to downlaod more music videos. (So download a video, rate it or leave a comment. Then you can download another.) Get what I am saying?
Because we have to many people just coming in and downloading our videos, not leaving comments, and then going off and editing them a little and telling people that they made it.
We should stop complaining about people not rating. So lets do somthing about it![/b]

That won't solve anything, just scare people away from the community.

We're supposed to attract people, not chase them away and make it a nag for them to get videos they want.

Um, people are forced to rate your video if they download it off the donut.
So what are you complaining about :?

It does seem like the site is just for amv makers, but I don't think it's aimed to run off the viewers who *don't* make amvs. Making it a requirement that new members *have* to have made a vid just sounds wrong no matter how I look at it. No one has to make an amv, and I don't think you should force people to be amv makers just to be a member of the site. Half the people who *do* make amvs don't start until they get here and find out how to do it - I'd wager half the new editors only make a vid after finding out how from our helpful forums and guides. You really want to force them to make something (no matter how bad) before they can join?

I get the feeling we have plenty of people entering vids in the database. If everyone who wanted to join had to add something, it would get rather crowded very quickly. And if they have to add something as soon as they join (in order to be a member), then it's going to be crowded with inexperienced 'noob' videos by people who weren't even given a chance to learn before trying it out. If that's how we do it, then there's no point in having the help sections since they're used more by new members than they are by the 'established' amv makers.

According to the stats, we have a lot more viewers than we do editors, and I think that's the way it *should* be. Just think, if everyone was a writer, who would browse the libraries aside from people wanting to check out the competition? Where's the fun in that? It's like saying you must play the sport before you can attend the game.

I'm all for blocking the 'copy and paste' thieves, but not like this. You can prevent them from downloading a local vids until they make one of their own, but that doesn't stop them from nabbing something off kazaa or the direct links. You don't have to be a member to steal someone's video and pass it off as your own. All this would accomplish is to make the site one for amv makers only. And while that did come up during the old 'OT deletion' thread, I think Phade said it was a place for the viewers as well as the makers. I would like to keep it that way.

As for forcing responses - how? With local we do have this via the star count, and you can force those people to write a review as well (since you know they downloaded it), but who's going to go through all those reviews and make sure they're legitimate? And how can you force someone to review all the direct vids they get when you don't know if they downloaded them or not? Won't work.

Hey,

As much as I sympathize with your enthuaism Desdraftlit, I must disgress. I find it very difficult to rate AMV's with simple clicks of the mouse, and I truly wish that you would stop complaining about my inability to do that clicking thing. Futhermore, I find this call to arms distressing, illogical, and without merit because there is already a system in place to regulate AMV rating.

I personally find this system to be a huge factor in my everyday life, and I wish McCormic would scrap the idea in favor of pie instead, seeing as pie is much more valiable and life-sustaining. I would petition sucha movement, but sadly I have no place to do that within the realms of the Org. It is truly a horror to see democracy in this new world go to waste, however, one must consider the inevitable path to spamdom.

Thank you ladies and gentlemen for your attention! I hope you did not waste too much time.

Lyrs.

Says the person who has two posts on the forums and has given no reviews. Paticipate on the site for awhile before trying to tell everyone how to run the site please.

I'll admit that I'm mostly here for the forums, and AMVs is a sidenote to that interest. I've posted nearly 1000 times now, and haven't dl-ed more than 5 AMVs. I consider myself still to be at least a somewhat meaningful member of this community, (Opinions of others may differ) so must my membership be revoked just because I'm here for what's considered to be an area of the site that isn't solely committed to the purpose of AMVs? Wow, I hope not... :(
You're lucky... I've decided to let you live to see the day when I will rule the world.

yeah if you did that to the members like CC here I'd bet you would lost most of the members. Then of course I don't know the statistics so I could be wrong.
