Does Anime embarass you?
Hey, i might be the only one, or there might be a lot of people like me... just wondering; are you reluctant to tell your parents/siblings/friends that you watch anime? When my brother found Love Hina episodes on my computer i was really embarassed... like REALLY embarassed BTW my brother is younger so its like twice as bad...
Currently i'm watching Naruto and trying to get some Full Metal Alchemist and Full Metal Panic DvD's i really want to get more anime with romance because i really liked how funny Love Hina was and i thought that Midori no Hibi was halarious... But right now i am only comfortable getting action anime and by comfortable i mean waking up early or staying up late and watching it with my door closed, like watching it secretly...
I dont tell my friends i watch it either, like they'd think i was really weird if i did. My brother knows i watch anime, he watches it too but he gets the impression that i am obsessed with it, like he'll walk past my room and look in and see me looking at anime sites or something and keep walking.
Basically i feel ashamed that i'm a senior in highschool and i still watch cartoons.... but they're not cartoons they're anime right?! Other people still view them as kids shows unfortunatly
Its more with my parents and brother than anything though... i put myself in my parent's position and think about if i had a son who was 18 and watching cartoons still... ~ it really gives me anxiety, like in the back of thier mind they're like... "WTF Grow up kid..."
Like when i move out i will have the biggest collection of anime imaginable, but right now i dont feel comfortable about it
Any one have any comments or personal issues with this? By all means anyone is welcome to post. Thanks.

actually, I think it's different with every person. some people are more open and want to tell the whole world about their newest bishie obsession, but others just go quietly about it. if talking to your friends about anime makes you feel uncomfortable, then don't talk about it. some of my friends think anime is for little children only (oh those poor ignorants), so I don't talk about anime with them. everybody has their own opinion and it should remain that way. of course, there is always the possibility that some of your friends might like anime if you introduced it to them... you never know

Then it seems I should have stopped years ago.Jaysin wrote:Basically i feel ashamed that i'm a senior in highschool and i still watch cartoons....
But seriously, I couldn't care less whether other people approve of my hobby or not. If you like something and it's not hurting others in any way, keep doing it. 8)

Well... not embarassed, but I'm reluctant to be placed among the rows of fanboys and fangirls. Especially if people jump to conclusions as to my behaviour patterns because of it.
So, unless I'm specifically asked about my stance on anime, or someone engages me in a discussion about it, I tend to avoid the subject. Considering I'm a casual anime watcher at best, it would simply be wrong if someone started thinking of me as this huge anime fan.
My parents tried the embarassing strategy on me about 3 years back, but it didn't work. Since then, I showed them some of the more 'serious' anime things and I don't think they mind it any longer. It seems they still look down on it, but... who cares. I'm 20. The last thing they should be doing is keeping my entertainment preferences under control

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
