How many AMVs per anime?

Post by Arcane Azmadi » Mon May 24, 2004 1:31 am

I was wondering if it is generally considered okay to do multiple AMVs with a single anime, or if that's considered to be flogging a dead horse? I mean, we've done a SaiKano AMV already set to The Goo-Goo Dolls' 'Iris' (and will be remastering it as soon as I get my hands on the DVDs) but I've had a couple more good SaiKano ideas which haven't been done yet (although Nyaa-chan won't let me do them, which is fair enough). On the other hand, Fluxmeister has done an almost bizarre number of Escaflowne AMVs, to both series and movie (although I've only seen Souls of Rage and Sorrow) yet he is VERY good, probably better than I'll ever be. So what's the general opinion, because I often end up with several good ideas and feel annoyed about the ones I have to leave. But I also want to be creative and original and doing two or three AMVs with the same series doesn't seem very original. Of course, if you've one a lot of AMVs, doing another one with an anime you haven't used for a while should be okay...

Thoughts? Opinions?

If you've got an idea, do it. That's my only guideline. Two of my three videos are Evangelion. Just don't reuse the same concept.
Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.

However many you want. I've seen creators that have turned DBZ or Eva into an entire career.

Its ok to do multiple videos but ALL of them have to be awesome. If even one of them isn't stellar then your thrown into that Ermac catagory were people go "oh look at him and all his [insert anime] vids".

That's when you say "fuck you all, I'm doing what I want to do".

It would be awfully hypocritical for me to say that you can't use an anime more than once.

PS - Scintilla, I just noticed you've made an AMV using ECC's Rocked by Rape. You're my new favorite person.

How many amvs per anime? Well, considering the more I like an anime, the more I watch it, and the more I watch it, the better I know the available footage, and the more I know the footage in that anime, the more ideas I get for that anime...yeah...

As many as I darn well feel like making. I'm not a one-trick pony, but they're called my 'favorite' anime for a reason.

I'd say making more than one amv per anime is fine, but as posted earlier, just come out with new concepts. No one likes to watch 3 of your amv's and be seeing the same thing. I'd say thats kinda why Final Fantasy AMV's can get to be so repetitive. No matter what song your listening to, you've seen all the same footage used over and over again.
