Good anime Movies and OVAs

I've been in a slump for over a year now without watching or buying any new anime. The crappy stories with trite plots, and animation departments running on shoestring budgets resulting in horrible motion and coloring that looks like it was done with a paint shop pro flood fill got old. Sell me on some new movies and OVAs that have come out (what they are, who made them, what the plot is about, and why you think it was good). Maybe after I watch them my interest will be rekindled again.

I like Escaflowne: The Movie and the Rurouni Kenshin OVAs. Personally, I don't see what you're talking about. I've heard Hellsing is good til the end where it's kinda rushed out.

Heard mixed things bout' Lain, though...

Hellsing and Lain were not too bad (alright, you need to have abnormal patience to watch Lain, and Hellsing could be better.)

My recommendations for and OVA series would be Rurouni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal (aka Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal) The 4 episode OVA has been released on a single (director's cut) DVD for a while now. You do not need to be a Kenshin fan to love this OVA (hell you can hate the Rurouni Kenshin series, but love this OVA) The OVA opted to take a major facelift compared to its tv predecessor. They redesigned the characters from scratch, which makes the characters look very realistic. (they still have pretty large eyes.) The story takes place during the revolution before the Meiji era.

Make sure you don't confuse Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal with Samurai X, or Samurai X: Reflection.

He's a n00b . It's horrible that you think RahXephon (but I have to agree with you on Scryed) is evil but anyhoo. Out of your list: Animatrix, FLCL, Bebop movie, Escaflowne movie, Eva, and Mononoke are good ones.
